I received no orders from Egypt, which means an NMR because his grace was already used up. However, that didn't stop the African power from gaining two centers and uniting the African continent as he holds onto his spring gains and Italy vacates Libya. Our new Prime Minister finds some early success by assimilating Sev, but he can't be happy with the German army that has landed on British shores. Elsewhere the Spanish and French armies that were in each other's homelands return home and Russia is pushed to the brink as Poland captures the final two Russian home centers, leaving the Czar only Iran.
There are no retreats, but we will still have a quick Autumn press release. Submissions for that press release will be due tomorrow, August 25, at 9 pm eastern. Winter will follow on Friday.

Press #1:
Spain to England: To the new Prime Minister of England. Spain extends greetings. I'm sure the French are anxious to keep your friendship, however I'm hoping you see the futility of keeping your forces in the south. You have bigger problems at home, and France cannot help even if he did concern himself with doing so. I think a brief scan of your predecessor's trials will tell you that he won't. If you continue to support the French I will continue to consider you an enemy. Remove the southern fleets and you have an ally in Spain.
Spain to Italy: Good intentions. Bad turn to miss. I would be less interested if my life didn't depend on it alongside yours, but I look forward to seeing how you proceed.
Spain to Germany: Dear Chancellor. Please tell us if you think there is any way we can help. Survival is key at the moment, but I hope for a prosperous future.
Spain to Turkey: Dear Sultan. You declare war on me from afar, declare me a "laptop". We have never met, we should be friends until proven otherwise.
Spain to Egypt: My new best ally if, in all unlikelihood, Tunis is still mine, or if you tried.
Spain to France: ......ahhh, forget it. You have made yourself my enemy without much hope for change. I hope I guess right.
Press #2:

Press #4:

ITALIAN PRESS - Fall 1997
Mario and Luigi are back at last, having spent the last three weeks on a forced "vacation" engineered by their (former) head of intelligence, Shy Guy. Things are looking poorly for Italy, but the brothers will never give up.
Mario: Hi, Luigi.
Luigi: Hi, Mario. Is good to be back, eh? But what a mess!
Mario: Si, Luigi. We have much bad work of Shy Guy to try to undo. He so smart of fighting, and so stupid of people. He has betrayed us of our friends to instead make kisses with enemies to no good event.
Luigi: And we have many less good chance of getting Peach back. Just as we say early before, she is in Francia or Turkey, you betcha. Shy Guy distract Italia with talk of "strategy" and "real politics." REAL is we need our Peach back!
Mario: So it is, Luigi. And he is not even good of the strategy any way. He turn friends like Ukrainia and Egitto to enemies, and gain nothing of it. What should we to do now?
Luigi: I see only one thing to do. We must say "Sorry" and try to go back on right course. For the fleets, we will leave Libya and hope Egitto leave Tunis for our friends in Spagna. The other ships must defend Italia.
Mario: Bene. It is the best that can be hoped. For the armies, we must stop Francia from any more gains and hope that our friends in Germania and Poland shall help us to the fronts of the West and the East. I shall send our most sincere apologies to the leader of Ukrainia, but he is surely very mad at Italia now and may wish to take Hungaria and to help Turkey.
Luigi: You do not think he shall believe our sorryness? Maybe to give him something?
Mario: We did give him Rumania, should he remember. It is hard to see what more to give, except for Bulgaria. Let us try that, and see if he guesses well that we wish to do anything to stop the Turkeys.
Luigi: Motto bene. As you say, it is little we to do but try and hope. Ciao, Mario.
Mario: Ciao, Luigi.
Press #6:
The Monarch is dead. Long live the Monarch! France welcomes a new head to her faithful but hapless ally. We will surely fail if we are divided. Let us remain united, defend against Germany and finish the job in Spain. Don't be distracted by Egypt or Russia - the real prizes are bigger than Morocco or St. Petersburg.
