PREV  Spring 1998 Adjudication:  NEXT

So I lied - something came up last night and prevented me from getting the adjudication out. My apologies.

Egypt NMRs again. If, from this point forward, I do not receive orders from him again I will immediately seek a replacement. In on-map news, Britain continues to have a tough time as the invading German army marches west into Liverpool and Polish fleets force their way into Norway. However, the monarch does score a small victory in the south, successfully re-occupying Gibraltar. The German army in France receives conflicting orders from high command, and the result is a dislodgement. In the east Turkey finally breaks into Serbia and Poland turns south, heading to Volga and dislodging Ukraine from Podolia.

We have four retreats:
British F Norway may retreat to Lapland, Norwegian Sea, or OTB.
German A Alsace may retreat to Belgium, Munich, Picardy, or OTB.
Italian A Serbia may retreat to Albania, Bosnia, Hungary, or OTB.
Ukrainian A Podolia may retreat to Hungary, Kiev, Moldova, Slovakia, or OTB.

These retreats and any Summer 1998 press releases are due this Monday, September 6, at 9 pm eastern.

Matt

Press #1:
ITALIAN PRESS - Spring 1998

Mario: Hi, Luigi. What's happen?
Luigi: Hi, Mario. Not much of good. Egitto does not talk to us. Ukraina does not talk to us. Turkia fight us and say it is our fault, which is something true because Italia -- thanks to sneaky Shy Guy -- stupidly try to stop fighting him.
Mario: Si, we have similar trouble. Big mouth frog sends big brag messages about how he beating up Italia and our friends. How you say "Duh" in Francia tongue, anyway? I no like him.
Luigi: Ha! It would be funny if not so sad thinking Peach may never be free of decadent frog-faces. But... we cannot give up! There is still hope of our friends Germania and Spagna. There is still hope tof Egitto and Ukraina.
Mario: You are right, Luigi. Italia has lost her chance to recover our princess, but she has not lost all her pride. We shall fight to help anyone who wish to stop the war-mongrels of Francia and Turkia. We should rather see Egitto or Germania or Polania rule the continent than to allow the evil ones their way.
Luigi: Si, si, Mario. We must write all the peoples to let them know. We shall pledge them any help, asking only that they treat Italia with respect and, when the evil ones are beaten, to please send us back our precious Peach.
Mario: Ciao, Luigi.
Luigi: Cial, Mario.

Press #2:
It is highly unlikely that Ukraine will do anything significant this move (or even the next). He's been supporting his units' hold since he's taken Russia's SC early in the game. Don't expect him to be a significant partner. I'm guessing this is his first game playing Diplomacy and he would rather not even be playing.
Everyone should consider a Poland/Germany draw. There isn't much hope for most of you. Turkey's been attacking 2 different directions. Italy was foolish enough to try a campaign against Ukraine. England attacked Russia early on and then just quit when Russia took his SC back. France has been attacking Italy with NO FLEETS in the Med. A lot of new people to this game I guess.

Press #3:
Poland to Ukraine: POD was DMZ and should be again, I'm just clearing it out (perhaps OB for a Black Sea fleet). VOL is not intended to hit you.
Given all this, can you give your neighbors (I, P, T) an idea of what your plans are?

Press #4:
France to England: You remind me of your predecessor... there's just something about the way you build units. PLEASE pull yourself together. We can survive and even thrive if we work together. Right now, you're acting like Russia.

France to Russia: Very happy you NMR'd. Now you can't keep helping Poland. France promises a case of top-quality Cotes de Rhone to whomever takes Iran and finishes off that sore loser.

France to Germany: isn't it fun to have enemies who NMR on a regular basis? We should leave each other alone and focus on those who forget to submit adjustments.

France to Ukraine and Turkey: hang together, men!

France to Poland: Since you've been drinking so much vodka, I thought I'd remind you of the old rhyme: "Beer before liquor, never been sicker. Liquor before beer, you're in the clear." So starting with vodka was a good plan. And of course you know where the best European beers are produced...
