PREV  Fall 1998 Adjudication:  NEXT

Germany and Turkey successfully take advantage of their grace period and avoid NMRs, but unfortunately Ukraine does not. I know our Ukrainian leader has had some recent real-life developments, so I will seek a replacement if I do not hear from him by the winter.

This season in modern Europe sees a lot of assimilations of spring occupations and Poland holds Norway, German flags are raised in Liverpool, Britain reclaims Gibraltar and Turkey solidifies its holdings in Serbia. As for movements this season we finally have some movement along the African coast as Egyptian forces spread out a bit, Spain happily takes back Portugal on the heels of the fleeing French, and Poland continues to spread south and east.

The draw proposal was voted down with 5 yes votes, 1 no vote, and 4 abstentions.

There are no retreats, but we will still have a Autumn 1998 press release (albeit with a short deadline). Press for that release is due today, Wednesday, September 15, at 9 pm eastern. Winter 1998 will follow on Friday.

Matt

Press #1:
Turkey to Ukraine- fight them!
Turkey to Egypt - fight them!
Turkey to France- on to glory

Press #2:
Germany to Poland: Yes, I leave CZE to you. Hope you get it....Germany and Poland are always allies. But anything you can do with your fleets such as retreat to lapland and finland for our long term peace?
Germany to France: Ok, England, Spain and Italy are dying, what next we should do?

Press #3:
France to Italy: I'm sorry for not supporting you a second time. The odds looked better for me getting Austria than for you getting Venice, with the bonus that it denies Germany an easy pickup. I also need an SC to offset the potential loss of Portugal.
France to Spain: So, which of us guessed right? You played the year excellently to end up in the position to force a 50/50 guess on Portugal. Diplomacy is a beautiful game.
France to England: Talk to me! I want to get a sense of what you're thinking, and how we can work together. I hope you didn't lose too much to the Kraut. I'm sorry also for moving a unit I asked you to support. It wasn't malicious.
France to Ukraine: Don't believe that Polish liar. Look at his press from the first few years: every turn he'd encroach further on Russia, even taking SC's, and promise his friendship all the while. Russia now blames the rest of the board for letting this happen, instead of himself for being caught flat-footed by Polish smooth talking (and smooth drinks?).
France to Poland: Keep those liquor shipments coming or I'll point out to Germany that you keep whispering sweet nothings to your victims right up until the minute you kill them.
France to Germany: I'll support the draw if it includes me. But Poland said he wouldn't support it this past turn: this is a guy who has a sole, solo ambition. The real question is: are you the next Russian? The other question is: did I get into Belgium? If I did, it means you tried some funny business in the "low countries". Or would I have gotten into Ruhr or Munich without support? Less likely, but your border is so tempting. Also, you should have taken Austria years ago when I first suggested it, and left me alone.

Press #4:
*********** Party! Party! Party! ********** Mario and Luigi would like to invite all their friends to a party!
We hope all can attend for fun and relaxation. Please come as you are. Our SC are your SC!
When: Fall 1998 until whenever
Where: The Balkan States.
Who: Germany, Poland and Ukraine. Spain and Egypt welcome, too, if you can make the trip.
Dress: Casual
Food: Turkey, of course!
Activities: Games (Turkey Shoot), Dancing (Chicken Dance, with minor variations), Ouija Board (Who stinks? as if we didn't know) RSVP.

Press #5:
Egypt to Turkey: Alexandria stands ready to assist, let's hope TUnisia holds
Egypt to Italy: That's a lot of fleets on my border...
