PREV  Spring 2002 Adjudication:  NEXT

Well now this game is really starting to get interesting. The fight between Poland and Germany continues to rage - Germany seems to have the upper hand in the north as he takes Norway and puts a fleet in the Arctic Ocean, but the Poles are putting up more of fight to defend their homeland than, well, ever. Germany also finds new success to his west as he takes Switzerland and assists Italy into Milan, although the Italian gain comes at the expense of the French marching into Venice behind them. And lastly in the Med Egypt continues to push west while Spain takes advantage of the idle British fleets to begin his attempt at reunifying Iberia.

There are three retreats:
French A Mil may retreat to Pie or OTB.
Polish F Nor may retreat to Ska or OTB.
Turkish F Sev may retreat to Wbs or OTB.
These retreats and any Summer press will be due tomorrow, Wednesday, December 8, at 9 pm eastern.

The DIAS was shot down. We have a new proposal for a German solo. Votes for that will be due with orders for the fall.

Matt

Press #1:
Egypt to All: I voted for the Polish solo a couple votes ago, but this game is now getting interesting. Spain is getting revived due to English incompetence; Poland is finally getting attacked; and watching Mario & Luigi squirm is just good ol' fashioned fun!

Egypt to Turkey: Yo yo. Good luck in the fight against Poland. Holding back the red tide is definitely doable, but it's going to take all your fleets. I am giving Turkey a wide berth, avoiding the Ionian and Emed ... that should give you some semblance of security. In the fall, please support A Jor - Irk in the fall with A Ada. Do let me know any suggestions and/or issues in the Summer communications.

Egypt to Spain: Hello. You are about to be gifted two SCs due to a civil disorder. What you do with those SCs is my concern. I very much do not want to see a Spanish fleet in the Mediterranean, and am willing to commit resources to keeping you bottled in Iberia. F Gol is a sign of that commitment.

Egypt to France: Not sure how things will end up in Italy. If that sneaky Italian makes a stab at Rom, please support the displaced F Rom back into Rom with A Ven. Otherwise, I should be in Apu and will support A Tus into Venice. Please let me know any issues in the summer press. oh, and why don't you move that fleet towards Spain ... not looking to attack Spain, just to keep him bottled up.

Egypt to Germany: Way to go!

Press #2:
To poland: if you disband your fleets at Scandinavia, we can talk about peace...

Press #3:
ITALIAN PRESS - Spring 2002

Mario says "Sorry, monsewer. I did not think you to see the letter for Herr Kraut. Thanks for nice saying about Peach! Also, I don't want your stuff. I just want my stuff back. You can watch my navy much better from your own home. Si?"

Press #4:
Turkey to egypt. Lets get us some polish to clean our boots! Ho de ho

Press #5:
Poland to France: Take a serious long look at your new neighbor. 5 fleets, 9 armies, and my backside bare. Yes I have 16 SCs, but I'm losing 4 this turn. Even with a retreat to FIN instead, its just a matter of time.

Please consider where your endgame lies. You have accomplished the breaking of the G/P alliance obviously, but now you need to watch out for the Germanic solo. Taking Italian and Spanish SCs will not keep you up with the Germans.

And even though I have his home SCs, I'm not Russia. I will still give Germany hell while we're at war, but realize my situation - I can't fight everyone on every front. One perfectly acceptable option is to feed him SCs and make him the senior partner in a G/P again. Unfortunately, I don't see that coming but its quite different than taking my ball home and I am the last one to chide given my comments to Russia so many years ago. But that said, given the choice between defending against Turkey or Germany, I choose Turkey.

Let me say it again - 14 units and getting 3 more this year. Sometimes the enemy of your enemy is your friend and all that hogwash, but sometimes you just need to attack Germany.

Poland to Turkey: Perfectly understandable. I just wish I'd known that last turn. *weak smile* Please accept this bottle of the second finest vodka, although I suspect it will be the last coming from me as the factories and distilleries are turning out arms and munitions now.

You still have time to turn the fleets, but I understand that you won't. Without that, I will still fight you - as my forces are deploy such that I can and, frankly, I'd prefer to see Germany solo than a DIAS or some sort of draw that I'm not in. (Which is not to say that I won't give him hell, but that I can't remove forces from our border unilaterally just to go down faster.)

Poland to Egypt: I guess its up to you and France. As you can see by my IRK moves, I'm willing to work with you and France for a E/F/P. Late yes and a longshot, but it is a valiant attempt at saving us all from DIAS hell (or a world without a Polish player). Evaluate where you are and what you see of a endgame, especially if I am unable to turn my attention completely to stopping Germany.
What point is it to take IRN and some of Italy if Germany still solos? You just have more SCs when you lose. (First draft said "bigger loser", but luckily re-read and caught it - that might have been bad diplomatically. :) )

On the other hand, getting lots of forces near his border under the "kill the Polish" flag will be helpful for a stab.

Poland to Germany: I miss you my friend and wish you the very best, but self-preservation requires thus as it is apparent that a G/P is no longer in your heart. Please accept this bottle of the finest vodka, although I expect you to have no problems producing it your self soon. Please forward some more beer, scotch, and French wine at your earliest convenience. We will need something to drown our sorrows soon.

I hereby propose and EGP for you and am voting for it. It looks like you should hit 25-26 without any problems.

Poland to Spain: It seems I will be destitute shortly. Please accept this shipment of vodka and other fine drinks. Perhaps I can come visit when I become homeless?

Poland to Italy: Mario, Thank you my friend. Perhaps I will see you in Spain shortly when we both have more time on our hands.

Press #6:
France remains at peace with her neighbors, and in contempt of Italy. Italians may succeed in taking Monaco, but will merely extend their miserable existence. Germany, as you can see, my move to Alsace is not aggressive. I will take Belgium in the fall as you instructed, but will not take any more of your SC without permission.
