A couple players have expressed concern about their ability to submit orders over the holidays, so we're going to take a little bit of a break and not have Spring 2003 be due until Monday, January 3, at 9 pm eastern. Remember that votes for the EFGPTS draw are also due then. Happy Holidays!

Press #1:
France to Germany: I approve of your draw proposal. Please don't take a hostile intent from my build of an army. I intend to build a strong line of armies on your border, because you are clearly the most powerful player on the board and cannot be allowed to grow. I will not stab you, but I will defend myself and my allies if you become aggressive. Assuming Italy keeps A Milan, make sure you cover Austria.

France to Spain: I see what you needed to do; no worries. Thanks for taking it slow on the builds. I would like to see friendly Atlantic fleets soon; that's our best check against Germany getting too ambitious.

France to Egypt: No fleet built. I recommend F Rom-Tus, if Italy keeps A Mil. If he keeps F Tus, can you keep him out of Lig? I would do it myself... but I didn't build a fleet. I'll order A Pie S F Rom - Tus in that case, and you can decide whether you want to go for the disband, or just hold him in place until next Winter.
France to all: please approve the draw. Look at this press, and this board: almost all the remaining players have shown a remarkably resilient commitment to not allowing a solo. In order to prevent a solo, I've withdrawn from Spain, Spain has come to my aid, Egypt and Turkey have made peace, Poland might even pull away from Turkey, and Germany has stabbed Poland. Nobody is going to allow a solo. So accept the draw, or risk a board-wide alliance against you when you get too strong.

ITALIAN PRESS - Winter 2002

The Italian Foreign Office has released the following statement on behalf of Mario and Luigi, whereabouts unknown but presumed to be amongst the Italian refugee fleet in the Adriatic Sea.

Mario and Luigi wish to announce to the world that they, having now been abandoned by their erstwhile friends without benefit of apology -- or even the barest acknowledgment of loyaltly and past service -- are resigning their posts in the Italian government. The brothers wish to express their most humble apologies to the Italian people for their failures, both personal and political, that have led to the current unpleasant state of affairs. While it is true that Italia has suffered betrayals domestic and International, they are still heartbroken that they were unable to live up to the faith that was placed in them by the Italian peoples, especially, and also our peace-loving neighbors to the East who relied on us for protection. It is their fervent hope that soon, perhaps this very year, the warring states of Europe will tire of their conflict and declare peace. There is little that Italia can now do to influence such an outcome at this time other than to add her voice to those preaching sanity.

And on a personal level:

Darling Peach - No, no, you can no return to Italia. The best for you and we is to go back to America and be safe there. We shall meet with you when we can, when the war is over for Italia, which is not long we are thinking. - Mario & Luigi
