PEACE DECLARED

And that's all, folks! All players have voted in support of the draw and victory for Germany & Italy. Congratulations to Matthew and Natalie for their joint victory! This was a very well-fought game, though I remain convinced that Germany could have gone for the solo. I guess it was war weariness that set in. Given the Central triple that this game started with, the outcome shows that the West could be sorted out, while the East remained a balancing act. But ultimately Germany & Italy showed supreme excellence in line with this game's theme, and are worthy of recognition for this result in their very first DC match. Austria, Russia, and Turkey each win themselves a survival. Well done to René, Lindsay, and Ryan for seeing it out to the bitter end. England and France, both eliminated, played well also, but ultimately fell to the German war machine.

This was my first game in charge in several years, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's been a pleasure to run this game for you fine people! Please do consider joining an open game if you haven't already done so. We have a Colonial game nearly ready to go, with 6 of 7 players signed up. There's also an Ancient World variant, which will be an interesting one. I'm playing in that one, but it'll take a bit longer to fill up. For this game, at least, please send your After Action Reports! That perspective lends more information to the game as we see what worked, what didn't, and how the game could have turned out differently but for one or two moves. This game lasted exactly four months: from April 23rd to August 23rd, so in e-mail terms, we probably were moving along at a decent pace. Thank you for sharing those four months with me, and enduring my messages pleading for moves before the deadline!

The final adjudication is below. There was one Russian retreat needed, but if we extrapolate from that we find the year-end standings:

1. GERMANY - Draw, 14 centres
2. ITALY - Draw, 10 centres
3. TURKEY - Survival, 4 centres
4. AUSTRIA - Survival, 3 centres
4. RUSSIA - Survival, 3 centres
6. ENGLAND - Eliminated 1908
7. FRANCE - Eliminated 1904
