GGS 1264 / DC110 - Japanese Hospitalization - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Heya folks,

Please be aware that Paolo, our Emperor of the Rising Sun, has had to make an unexpected trip into the hospital. I'm sure you'll join me in wishing him all the best, and a speedy recovery. Emails and correspondance with him may go unanswered over the course of the next week or so.

I'm not sure how this will affect our current deadline. I will leave it as it stands for now - with orders due Tuesday the 22nd. However, please be ready for that deadline to be shifted by several days if we need to.

Cheers everyone - and best wishes Paolo. =)

DC173 - Winter 06 Extension - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Heya folks,

All right, unfortunately I have to announce that Paolo has had to take some time away from the computer due to some sudden health issues. I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing him the best. Our travelling player DID get his Winter orders in - but due to Paolo's unexpected absence, and our travellers vacation, I'd like to extend the Winter turn out for a week in any case.

Hope that's okay with everyone. Deadline for Winter 1906 will be reset for Friday, July 25th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers,

DC177 Fall 1905 Results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Sorry for the delay; busy last couple of days. Russia exchanges a
support for survival, Italy takes Budapest but sees the French sack Rome
after foreign powers bounce in Naples, and Turkey is overpowered in the
Ionian Sea.

There is one retreat: Turkish F Ion can retreat to Alb, Aeg, Eas, or
OTB. That retreat is due Monday, July 21, at 9 eastern, but I will
process it as soon as I receive it. The deadline for Winter 1905
adjustments will be Tuesday, July 22, at 9 eastern. Adjustments due
will be listed with the retreat.

DC191 A Study In Baltic - Spring 1903 - The Man Wi... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
"I say Holmes! This is a somewhat disreputable place to find our guide."

Watson's friend turned to him, pausing in the act of entering the Oslo Box Of Bricks Opium Den. "My good man," he said, "This is where our friend with The Twisted Lip makes his base of operations. With the Swedish in Siljan province, and patrolling Lake Vattern, we will need the best guide we can muster."

Motioning Sherlock on, Watson inwardly shrugged. It had been years since his friend had frequented the Opium Dens of London, and The Man with the Twisted Lip had come very highly recommended... Yet he couldn't help but feel a sense of foreboding as they crossed the threshold of the Box Of Bricks.

-------------------

The Spring of 03 sees Poland take to the Baltic waters en mass - though having a spot of trouble getting into the Mid Baltic on account of the Swedish in Slite. Meanwhile, a valiant bid to regain St. Petersburg for Russia fails to make any headway.

No retreats are required so we'll set the Fall 1903 deadline for Thursday, July 24th (11:59 PM GMT). Cheers folks!

Dc192 Uncontactable GM - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear Players of Dc192.

Your GM, Paolo will unfortunately be away from his computer and the internet for anywhere up to about a week due to sudden and personal reasons. This is unfortunately unavoidable.

The next deadline for this game is :-

Spring 1904: 20h00 UTC/GMT, Monday, 21th July 2008

AT THIS STAGE, consider this deadline to be correct. However Paolo will be unable to confirm your sent moves/emails. IF you would like a back up confirmation for your emails, you can send them to me at stevelytton(at)hotmail.com (stevelytton(at)hotmail.com) as well as sending to Paolo's email address.

Paolo will then adjudicate Dc192 as soon as he returns (after the Monday 21st deadline).

If you have any questions or concernrs, please let me know.

Dc199 : A very quiet England - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear Players of Dc199,

Our English player has been removed from computer and internet access due to sudden health concerns. Whilst we wish him the best of health and a quick recovery, he has asked me to tell you all that he will not be able to answer any of your emails for the short time he is absent. He is and will continue to be the english player in this game.

Our deadline of next Wednesday will currently stand, since I have moves from all players - but I may decide to give Paolo an extra couple of days, when he returns if he needs it. I am still thinking about this.

DC 179 EOG Austria - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
DC 179 EOG Austria

An unusual game, in that it started with eight players and ended as a draw in 1904.

An interesting cast of characters, including:

Gwing Fan, (Stephen/France)
Yours Truly Mr. Plod (Joe/Austria)
Postman Pat, (Matt/England),
Bullet Dodger (Paul/Germany)
Mr. (only sometimes) Angry (Frederick/Turkey)
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Will /Russia, Danny/Italy), and starring:
The Invisible Man, one Daniel Roby, who appeared early then disappeared just as quickly and yet had a big influence on the game's final outcome.

As Austria I thought I had a good thing going with Russia (Will) but this quickly turned to dust, and when I believed Italy's (Roby?/Fleming?) thrust into Tyrolia was an assault on Germany rather than myself this effectively sealed my fate.

Resigned to an early exit I offered the Sultan (Frederick) a self sacrificing win of RUM and a clean take of SER. He, like me earlier was perhaps seduced by Will's siren messages, and turned the offer down. As my position was rapidly deteriorating the chance passed, and sure enough, Will continued to gobble up centres while Italy performed well in an understudy role.

As a new player I was somewhat disappointed by the forwarding of entire emails between certain players, but maybe that's par for the course. I believe the end result was a fair one in view of the circumstances.

I would like to apologise to GM Garry on this forum for my outburst early in the game. Please put it down to inexperience on my behalf.

Thank you to all the players involved.

Joe/Austria

dc193 ~ Manifested Destiny GB-ALL - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I am not happy about having somone stand in for me for two moves, as my stratagies & relationships with other players will certainly be compromised; however it is not my decision to make!
If a standin is used, I think it only right that the standin player takes over GB through to the end of the game, (which is quite likely what the GM preffers?). But I would like it made clear that I am not resigning from the game, as once I commit myself to a game, I see it through to a conclusion. Other email diplomacy games that I am involved in have been put on hold, as like this one, I notified the GM in plenty of time that I would be unavailable through family commitments. It seems as though a precedence has now been set in this game.

This game was postponed 2 weeks in starting and if held again would be
another 2 weeks. Is everyone willing to wait two+ weeks to resume this
game? If so, then I'll set the deadline for Spring 42 at August 6th -
and we'll play from there.

Wow, I'm feelin that Mick's got some "latin passion" (say it with a spanish accent). JK. But I agree with Mick, and it would be fine with me for the game to be put on hold until August, as I've got a big crunch coming up. Besides, i need time to reevaluate Holland's master plan involving clogs, cheese, windmills, and dikes. So that's one for Mick.

dc193 ~ Manifested Destiny GB-ALL - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Please don't get the wrong idea folks! I can understand where the GM is coming from. It is his game & I am quite aware of the number one rule in Diplomacy that the GM's decision is final. I merely wished to put across my explanation as to why I thought it better that a substitute player should take over GB permanently if an extension to the deadline is not to be granted. I am not 'throwing my toys out of the pram!" & would be prepared to carry on the game on my return, should the substitute player not wish to continue for the duration. However, as I previously stated, I have discussed tactics & made agreements with other players & it is impossible that the new player would know what these were, making it very difficult to take over GB after two turns absence.
Apart from the Winterblitz, where everyone was told prior to commencement of the tournament that it would be run to a strict deadline, I have yet to play a game of diplomacy where an adjournment had not been requested & granted.

Dc199 - 48 hour warning - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dc199 Spring 1901 is due on Wednesday 23rd July at 5pm, Australian EST

Here is a bonus 48 hour warning for you. Obviously I have moves from all players but I have not heard back from our England -- our Italian friend, Paolo. I'm still leaning towards extending this deadline for a couple of days to give Paolo a chance for last minute negoitations perhaps even from his hospital bed... I'll keep you updated.
