I shall be running a tournament featuring my 1648 (v5. variant and thought you might be interested. 1648 is a nine-player Diplomacy variant I've been working on for the last twelve years. It is set in Europe following the Peace of Westphalia. It's not a pure map variant as it features armed neutrals (i.e. minor powers) that may be influenced by the players.

Now how will the tournament be structured?
- The first round will consist of at least two boards. (Perhaps more depending on how many sign up.) Players may then qualify for the second stage of the tournament, the finals game.
- Players not interested in the tournament aspect and merely wish to play one game are entirely welcome.
- The games will run on the typical 5-2-5-2 days schedule.
- I shall run one of the first round games, the other planned one will be in the hands of Mark Utterback. As tournament director I shall be running the finals game.
- I shall determine in which of the two games you'd be playing. This way the players' power preferences will work out better. I further aim to minimise the players' familiarity with another by using this approach.
- This is an email contest. I ask the players to CC me on their diplomatic correspondence for playtest evaluation purposes.
- The first round games will at most run for 12 game years.
Right now we have 11 confirmed players signed up. Seven more to go...

With 1 game staring yr 4 in the face can go over some stuff...
Starting yr 6 can have extremely white press in springs only. An East reminiscing that he had a Prof Greeley for Psychology that turned his virginal mind into that of a scholar (Greeley = go WEST, young man with Psy, Ves & Sch hinted at for action by said player) is not something I'll let flow into the turn mail. 4 player gb games too easily affected early on but later can have fun trying. My best press in a PB ACTUAL mail game long ago was, to a group of players who clearly feared 1 player to the point of playing foolishly, was simple "C'mon! No really, c'mon!" repeated 20 times. Worked.
Likely will keep the finale GB so won't know winner of your game til after that games end. Unlike Ancient Med (if have enuff sanity will go for the full 25 in that next time) there is the deadly S/W alliance in full press games. Seeing it in these games indirectly with effect on results. If want to know winner sooner then just win! If no solo I put the advancer as taking a draw & other are survivors as game goal known. Anyone who ties for top but does not advance due to tie-breaker I include in draw for DC scoring purposes.
Remember that 2 isles clearly have center spaces that have coasts. Generosity done.
Most of the games have flowed well with none a real issue although a player or 2...  SH is a decisive game vs a finesse 1. Fight on![Reply] |
