dc394 f07 results! - Jim-Bob (Jan 31, 2012, 12:15 pm) |
So... guys, sorry to be a wet blanket on "ending the game", but the
Knights are not every HALF way to a solo!! That's what I thought was
the case. And apologies since I don't usually play DC games that I
can never find the country stats page, I'll save this E-Mail!!
But it doesn't look like we're anywhere near done yet....

Both the counts and charts will be updated for this turn, when builds are

May I please ask a couple of questions that have been confusing me
over the last game year?
1) Can we get a report, or show me where the report exists, of what
the center counts actually are at the moment? Counting the units and
the builds etc. is quite tedious, so I actually have no idea how to
react to Tom's note.
2) Plus, I thought the de facto standard for "solos" is more than half
the centers. Am I wrong? The Knights are NOWHERE near half the

3) Is this Diplomacy or Tiddlywinks? Just because someone is "tight
with their neighbors", does that mean all bets are off? I recognize
the value in "group negotiation", but lack the context....

I would comment, but there's nothing of significance I can add to the reality that one player has 16 centers, needs 52, and cannot win the game outright for what, 6 months real time or a decade in game time?

May I please ask a couple of questions that have been confusing me
over the last game year?
1) Can we get a report, or show me where the report exists, of what
the center counts actually are at the moment? Counting the units and
the builds etc. is quite tedious, so I actually have no idea how to
react to Tom's note.
2) Plus, I thought the de facto standard for "solos" is more than half
the centers. Am I wrong? The Knights are NOWHERE near half the
centers. If so, what IS the center count for a solo?
3) Is this Diplomacy or Tiddlywinks? Just because someone is "tight
with their neighbors", does that mean all bets are off? I recognize
the value in "group negotiation", but lack the context....

Cheers,
Jim-Bob

He has a huge lead, he is tight with those closest to him and the main
opponent in the Pirates (me) was stabbed by the Hobbits, I warned the
Hobbits if he stabbed me and my chances were no longer there, I would
assure him he could not lose by throwing what I have at him AND by handing
centers to the Knights.
No way do I allow a Hobbit stab to give him a chance so the Knights now
have a cake walk, the Hobbits made a very BIG mistake indeed. ...may as
well end it now?

Some big swings this round! Several people up 2 or 3, and normally that
would be pretty cool! But then we have the Knights and their +5...
Both Garry of the Wizards and Michael of the Ogres are eliminated! And the
Undead plunge into Civil Disorder, having missed two consecutive turns.
This reduces our game to 10 players!

I would comment, but there's nothing of significance I can add to the reality that one player has 16 centers, needs 52, and cannot win the game outright for what, 6 months real time or a decade in game time?

So... guys, sorry to be a wet blanket on "ending the game", but the
Knights are not every HALF way to a solo!! That's what I thought was
the case. And apologies since I don't usually play DC games that I
can never find the country stats page, I'll save this E-Mail!!
But it doesn't look like we're anywhere near done yet....

dc394 f07 results! (dc394) briandiffell Jan 31, 12:30 pm |
All very flattering, but I'm not even sure that I want to award myself the
win (though if put to a vote I'd be hard pressed to be the one NO vote...).
But whoever started this discussion probably made it harder for me to win
outright...
Of course, the reality is that I'm all for teamwork and I just want
everybody to win!

can never find the country stats page, I'll save this E-Mail!!
But it doesn't look like we're anywhere near done yet....

Whoops... Rogues ordered Daisy-Ella. This means...
Rogues capture It. Faeries have no home centers! Ella is disbanded, NRP. No change to Faeries "Remove 2". Rogues get "Build 4".
New map after builds!
We now return you to your regularly scheduled drama...

DC412 WB12 Rd1 - Spring 1902 Results - Corrino (Jan 30, 2012, 6:57 pm) |
Episode 3: A Tribute to Kenny Rogers
Know when to hold 'em,Know when to fold 'em,Know when to walk away,Know when to run.
Ironically, the name of the tune which gave us these classic lyrics was "The Gambler." Ironic, I say, because I feel confident in saying that this season's orders were anything but risky. If I may coin a word, I would say they were the "holdingest" orders I've ever seen, short of a stalemate line.
Susie, queue up the
statistics:
> Of the seven countries, only ONE, the Sultan, did not order at least one hold.
> Out of 30 total units, 11 were ordered to hold, or support a unit in holding. That's 37% units devoted to not moving.
> According to this nifty chart that I found on musicVF.com, Kenny Rogers had 14 number 1 hits on the US Country music charts. I don't think I've ever heard most of them, but "The Gambler" was huge. It definitely played on the pop stations I was listening to at the time. http://www.musicvf.com/Kenny+Rogers.art
RETREATS: Austrian A Serbia can retreat to Greece or Albania or OTB (off the board).
NEXT DEADLINE: Fall 1902 orders are due Thursday, February 2, at 18:00 EST. This deadline shall be unaffected by the news that day, good or bad, out of Punxatawny, PA.
Cheers,Chris

It's a sad day, but no surprise that war has broken out in Europe.
England's fleet in Belgium is disbanded. England's army in Norway has
one retreat: Finland, Russia's Armenian fleet: Sevastopol, and
Turkey's army in Bulgaria: Constantinople. If I've not heard from the
players within 24-hours they want to have then units removed then I'll
assume those retreats stand.
Please, please, please check that I've used the most recent orders for
you and everything is as it should be.

DC 409: Spring 1902 Adjudication - AceRimmer (Jan 30, 2012, 12:11 pm) |
No time for chatter today. I'm home with a sick child. But anything you read on the map is guaranteed to be better than chirpy GM musings. So, read that map!
There are two retreats, due tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. CST.
The first is:
English F North Sea can retreat to Edinburgh or Norwegian Sea or
Norway or Skagerrak or Helgoland Bight or Holland.
The second unit auto-retreats:
Turkish A Greece can retreat to Bulgaria.
If Gareth prefers, he can order A Greece disbands, so long as he submits it by 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. Otherwise, the unit automatically retreats to Bulgaria without him having to order it. That's an auto-retreat.

Hey all,
Things are starting to heat up. Almost everyone's picked a target, alliances are starting to congeal, but it's definitely still anyone's game. My favorite thing about this game so far has got to be the German nomad unit who keeps heading east. Where will he end up?
We also have our first retreat needed. Russian Army Rum needs to retreat. there's only one available spot, so I auto-adjucated Rum-Gal. Russia can still choose to retreat otb if he so desires, and the deadline for that is tuesday at 8:00 AM CST. Otherwise the retreat is final.
I think that's all the important info, so I'll see you all back here on thursday for F02! Thanks all!

Hi Guys,
Retreats and adjustments for Autumn/Winter 1902 are due in just over 2 hours. I expect to adjudicating within an hour of the deadline, so don't push it tonight.
Also, don't forget that if you owe me both a retreat AND an adjustment, you need to get BOTH in by the deadline.
For everyone, please be aware that you may submit your adjustments conditionally, based on the retreats that MIGHT occur.
e.g. If France retreats F Brest - Picardy, Build F London. Otherwise, Build F Edinburgh.
Just don't make it too complicated. I don't want pseudocode or a fancy decision tree. Plain English, if you please.
Cheers,
Chris

Sorry all!

*Lone German Unit Spotted in Ukraine!*
*France and Germany at War!*
*Last Two Neutrals Occupied!*
Hey all,
Things are starting to heat up.
Thanks all!
John
