DC 493, Fall 1901 - alwayshunted (Apr 04, 2014, 12:51 pm) |
So, I heard from Jean-Luc, our Italian player, asking to be relieved from this game by a replacement. For everyone's information, including yours Jean-Luc, nobody will be replaced. The players are final at this point in the game/tournament.
So, Jean-Luc, please try to participate. If you can't, your units will hold, but you will remain as the active player until the game is over.
Cheers,
Warren

Well, the brief delay improved things, only the two culprits from the spring turn didn't get orders in. Here's to hoping that nothing serious in real life is the cause of their absence.
So this game should be interesting at the least, as it appears we may have a couple of "neutral" powers. Keep in mind that they won't be ever kicked out of the game, so if they send orders at any point they will be allowed.
Adjustments are due tomorrow evening, actually about 22 hours from now. 18:00 Mountain Daylight Time.
Those are pasted down below the adjudication.

DC4899 Camus Fall 1902 results - Cartesian (Apr 04, 2014, 10:48 am) |
DC489 Camus Fall 1902
The Tsar makes good his gains in Turkey! Germany is somewhat beleaguered as England makes fresh pots of tea in Belgium and Denmark. The French hold their own and cultivate their vineyards, while across the Alps, action from Italy and Russia causes a bit of headache for the Archduke.
The only dislodged unit is Austrian A Vienna, which has no escape and is destroyed.
Press:
Vladimir Spewtin- EU: We did not intend to annex Ankara, but were invited to provide protection for our 2 citizens in the city, who were being harassed by raki sellers in their favourite bars. You can be sure that we will not encroach onto the sovereign territory of any other power, unless subjected to similar provocation.
- End of Press
We thus move quickly to Winter 1902. We need the following adjustments:
Austria: 4 supply centres, 3 units. Home supply centre occupation blocks 1 build.
England: 6 supply centres, 5 units. 1 unit may be built.
France: 5 supply centres, 5 units. No units to build or remove.
Germany: 4 supply centres, 5 units. 1 unit must be removed.
Italy: 5 supply centres, 4 units. 1 unit may be built.
Russia: 9 supply centres, 6 units. 3 units may be built.
Turkey: 1 supply centre, 3 units. 2 units must be removed.
*** Deadline: Please let me have these builds by tomorrow, that’s Saturday 5th April 1500 GMT*** I will put out a new map as soon as I have a full set of builds/disbands orders.
I then intend to work to the following schedule (a bit more relaxed&hellip:
Spring 1903 - Monday 14th April
Summer 1903 by Tuesday 15th April
Fall 1903 Monday 28th April
In other words we have 2 weeks between Spring and Fall 1903 instead of the usual week. All this is to accommodate a trip of my own and at the request of some other players. I suppose it's that time of year...
Please let me know quickly if this is not going to work for you, and I will see what can be done. Once a deadline is set, I will not usually change it.
Thank you all for getting your orders in on time, even though it was touch and go for some of you.
As always: send preliminary orders now, while you think of it! Then if you have some real-life event intervening, at least you have got some orders for your units to follow!

Thanks to all for my first-ever game of Diplomacy. It was a fun and eye-opening initiation into this wonderful little corner of the gaming universe. I look forward to future games with all of you (France I'm especially looking at you! ).
Congratulations Marc- who taught me about stalemate lines, DMZ's, and the importance of the long game. Thank you for a wonderful game! You deserve the win.
Good luck all with the rest of the tournament. Happy gaming.

Hi gang,
Here is the fateful turn. I am not sure if this is proper protocol, but I am doing it anyway
Germany has achieved 18 supply centers, and nothing in the retreats is going to change that. So I ran the retreats as ordered or as I assumed they would order, and the game is now OVER. The final status is pasted below the adjudication.
Congrats to Marc for a well deserved win, and THANK YOU to all participants who were great at getting orders in, no matter the situation on the board.
I wish I could say the same for some of my round 2 players........
Although not required, you can send End of Game Statements to the group... I'm sure people would be glad to read them.
Cheers,
Warren

DC 483, Fall and Autumn 1911 Game Over - alwayshunted (Apr 03, 2014, 7:13 pm) |
Hi gang,
Here is the fateful turn.
Cheers,
Warren

Thanks to all for my first-ever game of Diplomacy. It was a fun and eye-opening initiation into this wonderful little corner of the gaming universe. I look forward to future games with all of you (France I'm especially looking at you! ).
Congratulations Marc- who taught me about stalemate lines, DMZ's, and the importance of the long game. Thank you for a wonderful game! You deserve the win.
Good luck all with the rest of the tournament. Happy gaming.

Yeah, she was killer. I freely admit to writing a somewhat callous message to her early in the game, calling her out on that, because I simply couldn't believe a novice could handle a game the way she was. Watch out, sheep, a wolf is loose among us! ;o)

Hi gang,
Well it's unfortunate that this one has to start this way, but we have two players that did not send in orders to start the game. Very unfair for some involved, but I have been instructed by the powers that be to run it anyway.
So Turkey and Italy all hold this turn. Guys, please let me know what happened and try to get orders in for fall.
Fall will be due on Thursday, April 3, at 18:00 MDT.

dc492 spring 1901 - catsfather (Apr 03, 2014, 4:24 pm) |
Fall adjudication delayed to, let's say, 6am BST on Friday. I'm missing one, or more orders. Given that this is the second round, I think there has to be a bit of toughness ... and I don't think a delay of nearly half a day is as tough as I should/could be.

The Knight expansion stops abruptly this turn... as most everything LEA does works, and most everything the Knights attempt fails. Knights do get a little victory in Westmark disbanding the Archer, but everywhere else it's losing ground. Two Knights are disbanded and Slg is dislodged to Aca.
LEAK fails.
NEXT is Friday! 4/4, 3pm Central!
Enjoy,

End of Game notes - thecount1282 (Apr 01, 2014, 11:36 am) |
Dear all,
First of all, please accept my apologies for falling off the face of the earth after my thorough ass-kicking in the diabolical hands of Turkey. I am a PhD student at a university that happens to be on a "quarter system" and it so happened that the fiasco in Diplomacy coincided with the busiest time of the school year.
Here are some of my thoughts on this game:
1) Obviously the early NMRs by Austria resulted in confusion for everyone. My initial plan was to work with Austria against both Turkey and Germany, but the Austrian's unfortunate play forced me to make a decision between the two antagonists.
2) I still believe that my decision to stab Turkey early in the game was the correct one, but I didn't follow through with the correct moves (stupidly building an army rather than a fleet in Sevastopol, for instance. We've all seen how important a fleet in the Crimea is for Russia). Turkey also played an excellent game and was able to correctly guess my tactics resulting in my early exit from the game.
3) The greatest regret I have is that Italy chose to work with Turkey rather than with me. I am still uncertain as to why he made this decision. I made genuine and consistent overtures to him from the beginning of the game and it seemed far more logical for him to work with a power who didn't have the same ambitions in the Mediterranean as did Turkey. I must admit that I experienced some Schadenfreude watching the Italian's eventual annihilation by Germany, France, and Turkey.
4) Germany played a marvelous game, somehow he was able to convince England to work against me in the north. Admittedly, my peons to England were less earnest than those that I made to Italy. I was fully ready for a full alliance with the Italian, but I genuinely liked the German and was thus prepared to work with him rather than against him.
Thanks everyone for a great game! I look forward to hearing some more feedback from you.
best,
Greg

Thanks John for GMing a great game.
Had a difficult time for a while, with an ally that took an early bath, then an ally who spent more time trying to get hold of my SCs than working back to back...
But between building some solid working relationships and a great deal of luck, managed to get a foothold in the game.
It did feel somewhat like being at the eye of a cyclone while everyone around me attacked their neighbours in a vicious circle around me - although I wasn't about to play mediator to stop it happening!
You're all such a great bunch, I feel genuinely guilty to those I stabbed at the end - particularly to Michael, my fellow Brit, who was steadfast and trusting and a general all-round great guy. I can only apologise for giving in to temptation!
I look forward to playing with you all again. I tried to be as honest and straightforward with you all as I could, so I hope I haven't marked my own card too badly with you all.
Very best of luck with the rest of the Blitz!
Chris

*Peace Finally Reigns*
Hey all,
The draw failed, and I apparently don't have moves from France. But the best France could have done is given Germany a mere 18 supply centers vs the 19 he ends with. The Germans win, and the first solo of the 2014 Blitz goes to Chris. It was a great game, and having played with many of you, I know there were some high caliber players on this map. May Round two treat you all well!
Rp does not want me to paste the moves after the game ends for some reason, so you'll have to look at the map. But Germany gains Por, Spa, and Mar. I love hearing End of Game notes from everyone. What went well? Where did the game go horribly wrong? What devious machinations were in place? Share your thoughts!
