DC 233: Inexorable - stevec   (Mar 16, 2009, 11:53 am)
Just to take the suspense (or not) out of it, these are the orders I sent:

F MAO-Eng
F Iri S F MAO-Eng
F Wes-MAO
A Mar-Bur
A Par-Bre

So, I'm in the English Channel, Russia has a retreat, MAO is empty, and I'm in Bre.

I nmr'd once--about 4 years ago. My motto: "Never again."

Here is the header (with the forward, since it's in my sent folder)

I have to believe that they got lost in Adam's inbox and he didn't check the tournament box. If not, well, I don't know what a player is supposed to do.

Steve's orders are due Tuesday. Everybody else can (but should not) wait until Thursday.

Folks,

I sent a set of orders on Thursday to Adam and to the tournament address. I've forwarded a copy to Adam to ask him to double check--as they may have been lost for being so early.

Best regards,

Steve

dc231 Spring '10 correction - notasb   (Mar 16, 2009, 10:11 am)
Correction:

http://www.geocities.com/dawench2/23110Spring.gif

Italy's orders quite clearly say (ec) and I accidentally placed him on the south coast.

F Constantinople - Bulgaria(ec).
F Greece Supports F Constantinople - Bulgaria(ec).
A Serbia Supports F Constantinople - Bulgaria(ec).

The Map should now be correct, if you do not see the corrected map please try the refresh button, I used the same link and sometimes it takes a refresh to update.

Two questions about the French being in CD?

1. Will the former French player (or a new person who volunteers to play) be allowed to come in at any time in the future?  Or is this a permanent CD for the rest of the game?

2. If a French unit is dislodged, will it have the opportunity to retreat?  Or will all retreats be OTB while France is in CD?

thanks,
-kevin

It is a permanant CD. There will be NO return for the French player and no replacement.

Units are disbanded if dislodged when a country is in CD

DC224 - Temporary Hiatus for Hobbit Recruitment - former.trout   (Mar 16, 2009, 12:51 am)
Heya folks,

Unfortunately my attempts to find a replacement Hobbit player (or get fall-back orders from Graham) for DC-224 were unsuccessful, so with my apologies we'll place the game into the recruiting mode.  Hopefully someone will step forward and take the position shortly.  If not, I'll call in a few favours and brow-beat some people into taking the job...  =P

In any event, once we do find a new player there will be a short getting-to-know you period to allow for diplomacy.  In short, we will not be able to make tomorrow's deadline.

Thanks for your patience everyone.  Sorry for the delay, but hopefully we will be back on track before you can say Pipe-weed...

Hey there everyone... one thing I'd like to make clear here.  The next deadline is for both the vote AND your next moves.  If the draw proposal is defeated, we will move forward with whatever moves people have submitted.  If the draw passes, there is no need for the moves, but I'll need to have moves from everyone either way.

Does that make sense?

Guys,

Please note that there is not a draw proposal of any kind currently on
the table. I thought some clarification might be needed because I've
received votes for a non-existent proposal. When a proposal is voted

somebody, they do not just magically renew themselves.

Orders for Spring 10 are still due Monday.

Dc197 Just a note - kevinokelly at gmail.com   (Mar 15, 2009, 12:48 pm)
I vote for the Russian solo. Was that an option? Even still, I vote it.

On a side note, I like Packrat's email. Well written. And to answer his question... Yes, it is time to play.

On the last side note, I'm at the South Side Irish Parade in Chicago... With a few Guinness in me now. I hope I can understand this message later tonight!

Not much point to playing this game anymore.
You all better just concede and surrender to the Russian solo threat right
now. I'm willing to leave you your lands and your women, though all your
sheep belong to me!! Bwah-hah-hah!!

Wait... wasn't it the other way around? Nevermind. =P

Gentlemen,
Obviously this development changes the flavor of the game dramatically.
Equally obvious must be the emails going round and round casting me as
the black death coming across the map to steal your lands. And that might
actually not be far from the truth.

However, I would like to call your attentions to what is also obvious.
Austria has two more dots than I do and can actually solo by getting
all of the continental French dots. But, that is not very likely.
However,
on the flip side, if Austria does the next move the RIGHT way then Moscow
falls and there is not a single thing I can do to stop it.

Conversely, I can solo if I take all of the continental dots and the three
on the
island.

There are a ton of options before all four of us, and Austria and I *BOTH*
have
an equal chance for a solo and Turkey and Russia have a new shot at the
prize as
well. Granted, Russia's is a lot slimmer than Turkey's, but all is not
lost for any of
us.

So when all is said and done my black horde and Austria's red menace will
both be
heading full speed toward France and probably each other. Well, especially
at each
other since we want to stop each other. Just don't buy any story from
either of us
that the OTHER is the bad guy. We both are and that's the reality of it
all. So, shall
we play a game?

DC230 Spring 02 - The Sound Of Silence - former.trout   (Mar 15, 2009, 12:47 pm)
Heya gang,

There's a tangible hush in the air as all across the board, forces are like coiled springs waiting to know which direction to pop in. More Holds and Support-to-Holds than you can shake a sceptre at...  But you know what they say - its always quietest before the storm...

No retreats drop out from the cole-slaw...  We'll set the Fall 1902 deadline for Sunday, March 22nd (11:59 PM GMT).  Please let me know if you spot any errors in the adjudication.

Cheers!

Due to real life situations beyond my control, i have unfortunately fallen behind in my games this weeked. I hope to get on top of everything over the next 2 days or so, but please oblige any slight delays with running games (Dc212, dc220, dc197, dc22Cool or GMs expecting mvoes from me.

if there are any dealdines, I need to submit moves for - if the players give me a gentle nudge tomorrow I will try and do them first.

DC230 Late Spring 02 Orders - former.trout   (Mar 15, 2009, 2:50 am)
Heya gang,

I partly blame myself.  Was otherwise engaged last night and failed to send out a deadline reminder.  That being said, those reminders shouldn't be relied on to come every turn, if you know what I mean...

Let it be known that I AM committed to getting this game back on the right track, so that it is firing on all cylinders when Babak find himself up and running again.  That means getting the adjudications out at the proper deadlines.  Please consider this your only warning - while my own games and house-rules do not allow for NMRs, this game is not governed by my HRs...  Failure to send in orders by deadline WILL result in the awarding of NMRs as per the default DC house rules, which Babak has decided govern this game.

I've notified our current stray in a seperate email.  Courtesy of my current blurred vision and slurred speech, he gains a few extra hours to submit moves - as do you all if you wish to submit any changes.  Adjudication will take place in roughly ten hours once I sleep this monkey off my back...

Your nonsensical temporary GM,

DC 228 Austrian End of Game Statement - deathblade_penguin   (Mar 14, 2009, 11:07 pm)
.ExternalClass .EC_hmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.EC_hmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} I thank you all for the privelage of playing together. Now that the Austrians have fallen, I thought I would unveil some of what happened.

I opened with a non-traditional Austrian opening called the "Blue Water Lepanto". The point is to appear to begin with an all-out attack on Italy while secretly working with Turkey to setup a Lepanto that involves an Austrian fleet as one of the fleets setup in the convoy chain to Turkey. Logistically, it looked good in the beginning and everything was falling into place. I followed the opening as I read it including not disclosing my plan early to Italy. This is where some of my Diplomacy began to fail. Italy, appeared quite vinidictive in his Diplomacy with me after I let him in on what I was doing which then led to weak relations when I was wedged between both Italy and Turkey. Italy siezed the opportunity and took the stab.

Who could blame Italy? I mean, it was the type of slow churn I would expect to experience as Italy, but I was Austria and was failing to pickup much needed SCs. Here is the rest of the things I viewed that slowed, failed or stopped the Blue Water Lepanto from completing. In my Diplomacy I wanted to pit Russia and Turkey against one another and while there was some distrust in the beginning they refused to attack one another which allowed both of them to grow. Additionally, I needed a strong Germany as a northern neighbor and we all saw how well that worked out. Whether it was true or not I do not know but at one point it seemed that Germany even feared an attack from me. Furthermore, England refused to attack Russia in the beginning so Russia flexed his muscles hard and heavy and became pretty solidified in his position. I sounded the alarm concerning the balance of power as a tactic and nobody seemed to care. Russia grew. I finally found a willing partner against Russia in Turkey, who at the same time was working with Italy against me. As a result, Italy bailed out on me and stabbed me instead of following through on the Blue Water Lepanto and Turkey grew very quickly.

So, here are the lessons for anyone who may be Austria and consider a Blue Water Lepanto in the future. It is a good strategy if (as with many Italio-Austrian alliances) that the alliance holds and trust can be kept between both countries. Russia cannot expand so quickly and needs to distrust Turkey so it keeps Turkey smaller as well. As with many situations if Germany falls quickly, Austria will most likely not last long after that.

As I see the current setup, England waited too long to act on Russia. It also appears that France and Russia could be working together which means they almost already have the horizontal stalemate line set. I would not be surprised to see England fall to Russia and France. With the stalemate line almost set it will be very difficult for Italy and Turkey to break it together. They need French help. It also seems it would be of some benefit to a Franco-Russian alliance to make a a joint attack on Italy so only Turkey needs watched.

It was fun!

dc237-modified adjudication autumn 1904 and adjudi... - phantomas   (Mar 14, 2009, 6:11 pm)
Dear players,

I can’t use the prior map as a basis for the forward progress of the game because it was not Tim’s fault but mine. As I said I mixed up TRI and TRL (which is Tim’s abbreviation for Tyrol). Thus the army in VEN really retreated to Tyrol.

But I can set up a new DL if someone wants to change his adjustments.

So I join you a map before the builds (autumn04) with the right retreats.

And I let you 24h (Sunday March 15th 23:59 GMT) to send me your modified adjustments.

If you are not intended to change anything, no need to send me a mail.

For the new winter adjudication, I’ll use all the sets of orders that I could have received from now to tomorrow. If I don’t get anything then I’ll use the present orders for each player.

I hope this will satisfy everybody. Anyway I think it’s wise.

Regards,

Jluc.

Jean-Luc, dear friends,

I virulently object to this adjudication. A retreat to Trieste ensured that Austria could not build an additional fleet thus my build of an army in Marseilles. That build was predicated on such an impossibility.

A communication from the GM re the change in retreat location PRIOR to the adjudication could have resolved this . I submit that the prior map be retained as a basis for forward progress or that a new deadline for the winter adjustments be issued.

Hello all,

I just made a slight mistake in the autumn 04 adjudication : Austria sent me “VEN retreat to TRL” which I mixed up with TRI.
So I join you the map for winter 04 corresponding to the modified autumn04.

Adjustments are as follow :

France : build A BRE and A MAR
Austria : build F TRIeste
Russia : build A WAR and F STPnc
Italy : remove A ROM

Next DL is Spring 1905 due Thursday 19th at 23:59 GMT
