Dc197 Winter Deadline and New GM - deathblade_penguin   (Feb 13, 2009, 5:28 am)
Gentleman of Dc197

Due to his recent connections issues, Jackson has asked me to step in and finish the GMing of Dc197. We thank Kai for his GMing so far and look forward to a brutal cut throat, end of game issue.

A couple of adminsterative matters.

1) My own house rules will be applying to this game from Spring 1908. PLease take your time to look them over, (they can be linked at through the Dc197 game page). If there are any of my house rules that clash with the DC default rules and your own personal philosohy meaning that you would not have signed up for the game, please email me and I am happy to consider a compromise.

2) I am sticking with Kai's deadline of the 15th. Although because i run my deadlines in Australian EST, I will set it as Monday 16th at 7pm.

3) I urge all active players to send me a confirmation of receiving this email by the winter deadline.

Heya folks,
Okay - here is the dilemma going into the Winter turn...
One of our number
is involved in a forced and unexpected move across country.
While they were
going to try to be in email contact, they let me know that
it was a chance
that this wouldn't be possible. Obviously this is the
case seeing as how I
don't have orders for Winter.

So I realize we've already delayed a couple days but
I'd like to ask all of
your guys' patience while we give just a little more
time for our travelling
warrior to get settled. With everyone's forgiveness,
I'll reset the Winter
deadline to Monday, Feb 16th (11:59 PM GMT).

Thanks for understanding everyone. Hope you all have a
great weekend!

DC236 Winter Blitz Board 6 - Fall 05 - former.trout   (Feb 12, 2009, 7:26 pm)
Heya folks,

Some interesting bounces all around as the board takes some funky developments. Russia is thrown off of the British Isles but reclaims lost territory in the south, Italy buys tickets for the Opera in Vienna and the coffin is nailed for the French as Marseilles falls.

Two retreats are required in addition to the winter adjustments. Deadline for both retreats and adjustments is set, as always, for tomorrow night - Friday, February 13th (11:59 PM GMT).

Shout out if you spot any errors. Cheers!

A unit in a center adjacent to a home center should stay, and the one not in a center (but also adjacent to a home center) should go. The rules for this game say this is the order:
[*:1ab74a4020] Units furthest from the nearest home center before units closer to the nearest home center
[*:1ab74a4020]Units not in a supply center before units in a supply center if equidistant from home [/listSurprised:1ab74a4020]

Fleets before armies if still no unique unit selected per above
Alphabetical
[/listSurprised:1ab74a4020]
They are equal per (1), then (2) is the deciding line.

Did not have them all yesterday at D/L then got tied up. Processing what I have now. Actually started changing some of the key spots to small letters (that fixed early similiar issues in earlier versions of Amed & worse Sengoku (worse because I don't have that geography in my head to just blow through it). As simple as taking the file into wordpad and changing but have to get all the connective places as well. Until I am sure I will make other changes to this (China & Australia cause the war by moving fleets to SCS & ARA eespectively + maybe sc moves if I can remember how) the effort seems not of great value this late in the game. Would use a file someone else fixes if they want to. If people would just play SSI wargames or SPI board 1s we would not have this trouble...

DC232 fall 1905 results! - coryfucius   (Feb 12, 2009, 3:50 pm)
France and England continue their war, and France again gets the better of England this year, taking both Denmark and London while only losing Norway. France stops Italy from moving an army into Piedmont, also stopping Italy's attempt on the Gulf of Lyon. As a result of Austria's move towards Munich, the Italian army in Tyrolia is forced to fall back. Italy successfully sails into Tunis, while Austria and Turkey also sail westward.

There are two autumn 1905 retreats due:
The English fleet in Denmark may retreat to the Baltic Sea, Helgoland Bight, or OTB.
The Italian army in Tyrolia may retreat to Venice or OTB.

Winter 1905 adjustments will be due as follows:
England remove 1 (no change if retreat OTB)
France build 1
Italy build 1 (build 2 if retreat OTB)

Both the autumn 1905 retreats and winter 1905 adjustments will be due tomorrow, Friday 2/13 at 3:00pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT.

P.S. While I sit here preparing to send the adjudication, I'm missing out on the various local festivities in honor of President Lincoln's 200th birthday. President Obama will be in town this evening for one of the ceremonies.

DC 233: F1905 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Feb 12, 2009, 11:42 am)
So it has come to pass that Fletch has been eliminated. I treat this as neither something joyous or sad... but if anybody wants some barbeque, I'll be grilling out on the back porch. Smile [All comments in jest, as I actually kind of like Mr. Fletcher... and besides, it's below freezing out on my back porch].

In other news, Munich finally falls, while Norway oddly doesn't. See below for details.

There is only one retreat: German army Munich retreats to Ruhr (there being no other options).

So, Winter adjustments are due tomorrow from Austria, Germany, and Russia.

Austria:
A Bohemia Supports A Tyrolia - Munich
A Budapest Supports A Trieste

DC209 W08 NEXT WED NEXT - FuzzyLogic   (Feb 12, 2009, 11:30 am)
A unit in a center adjacent to a home center should stay, and the one not in a center (but also adjacent to a home center) should go. The rules for this game say this is the order:
[*:84156a985b] Units furthest from the nearest home center before units closer to the nearest home center [*:84156a985b]Units not in a supply center before units in a supply center if equidistant from home
[*:84156a985b]Fleets before armies if still no unique unit selected per above [*:84156a985b]Alphabetical[/listSurprised:84156a985b]

Rulers of the far reaches of Europe…

My fellow Kings – I am lucky to not have been overthrown in a coup-d'estat. I owe you all a massive apology for having to suffer through the delay you have due to my own life issues… I know it must suck. I'm going to do my best to re-earn your respect and trust as the GM… and I hope you guys can revive your own conversations and diplomacy after this long delay.

I had many questions about how best to send me orders – I'm going to send each of you the "orders" email. Please 'reply' to that particular email every time you send your orders – it will be a huge help.

I do want to ask you all to send press. If you want to declare war (well, after you've made the move) or beg for peace, warn of impending victory for another or just to rib or taunt your fellow rulers, use the white press opportunity. Given your chosen characters (all but Justin have taken on an ulterior identity), it should be much fun to write a few sentences to share.

Without ANY further ado – here are the results:

DC201 (Viking) - Norge EGS - deathblade_penguin   (Feb 12, 2009, 4:11 am)
First of all I will also thank Frank for a fantastically GM'd game. Frank would easily rate as one of the best GMs I have enountered, and i would consider him on par with Christine Stoy. Thankyou for the enjoyment.

I have to confess I did not enjoy the ganme play in this game and it was mainly to do with the players. I didn't mind the scorched earth rules and I do like the viking map.

Slavics - Kurt. I considered Kurt my true and solid ally in this game. Even though he grew big at the start of the game, I suspected that he would face problems with ERE and the communication with Kurt is excellent. My emails always seem to go answered and i enjoyed working with him. There were rumours in the last few turns that Kurt was about to stab me for a northern centre (hence my last 2 builds were quite defensive) but i dont think Kurt would have done so. We were making plans to cut Sweden out (sorry Doug - i did lie to you about that). I was more than happy that Kurt was in the draw.

Sweden - Jack. Jack was a good ally, right up to a point... I enjoyed the strategies that Jack would come up with and with Jack and Kurt we co-ordinateed a great alliance in the north. However there was a point at mid game where Jack seem to stab 'doug/burgundy' just because he got bored. ERE then moved back on Sweden but it was too late for me. Twice Sweden attempted to break through in the north (both times unsuccesfully) and i had to fight him back. He then also stopped communicating near the end (with perfectly reasonable explanation though), which meant that I was definately onboard with Kurt's plan to wipe him out.

France - Trout. Put simply, Trout was a target at the start of the game by Burgundy. I had no interest in attacking Trout so I just let him burn what he wanted.

Arabs - Andy. Possible the worst player I have encountered. Andy did not answer a single email of mine in the first year, basically resulting in my walking into one of his Home centres. I only then heard about him through ERE. Andy, I think it was very poor play not to negiotate with such a close neighbour.

Burgundy - Lee. The one thing I like about Lee is that he communicates. He emails and writes all the time. The one thing i hate about Lee is that he has no trust. He was constantly movign armies back and forth along my border - this eventually led to me organising as many people as I could to attack Lee. HE wasn't helping us stop ERE, he was just being a pain in the way.

Burgundy - Doug. I think Doug played an excellent 'replacement' game. He came out, was able to read the board and quickly joined the status quo to stop ERE going for his solo. More importantly - he was willing to create a DMZ so that I could move my fleets into the med and help against ERE (something that Lee would not allow). In some ways, I think Doug was entitled to be included in the draw, but he was willing not to be - so who can complain with that. Doug - i was counting your SC, (at end game I knew I needed 11 to win.. and I could only take 5 off you instead of the needed 8.. so no stab.. However if i ever worked out how to get those 11, i was going for the win!)

Danmark - Kai. My first target. Jackson was too quiet and my first big threat to securing a corner for myself. I just moved to eliminate hjim as quickly as possible.

ERE - Jorge. Jorge had an excellent start to the game, and seemed to grow very quickly. He also seemed to have control over the arabs who just let Jorge take the entire southern corner. I viewed Jorge a threat after his first moves. I spent countless emails to Jorge, assuring him that i was working for a 2 way draw for us, whilst at the same time trying to organise Burgundy, Sweden and Slavs against him. (admittedly Doug took on this role in the latter half of the game). Eventually I hit a wall where I had to let Jorge know I was not going to stab Burgundy if Burgundy was moving on ERE. Jorge said very clearly at the time that if i did, we would never get the 2 way draw - and he was right. Thanks for a good game Jorge, you are always an excellent opponent.

DC222 Additional Time Needed - former.trout   (Feb 12, 2009, 12:29 am)
Heya folks,

An emergency telegram arrived for me today requesting the extra 24 hour extension for the Fall 04 turn. Since there's at least two of you without orders in at this point, then I figure maybe it actually is needed. Deadline will be reset for tomorrow night (Thursday, Feb 12th) at 11:59 PM GMT.

Thanks for the patience everyone. There's a couple of us that are having a tough week from the sounds of it.

Cheers!

Hey folks,

I can't find orders from Turkey, so Rachael if you sent something let me know. Barring a change in Turkish orders, Turkey will be eliminated after winter of this year. Thanks very much for playing Rachael!

Germany had one retreat, and one option, so I retreated Sweden - Finland and adjudicated autumn as well. Matt, let me know if you have other ideas for a retreat.

LOTS of changes, so lots of adjustments this year. See the bottom of the adjudication for details. I'll expect orders by Friday night my time... see below.
