DC103 - Desperately seeking retreats - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi guys,

Deadline for summer retreats is in less than a half hour - I have neither of them submitted. Since the problem might be the weekend deadline, we'll extend to Monday, Jan 21st (11:59 PM GMT). I will, however, adjudicate early if I receive both retreat orders in and marked FINAL.

Cheers,

Trout

DC 134: Extenstion required - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey everyone, We have a player requesting an extension to the end of the month, and as I have had no word from one player, we will use that time to try recruit a new Captain for the Whitecloaks.

Again, I am really sorry we have had all the player issues on this game.
I think it is just out karma to not get through a full game year without an interruption!

DC136 Avenging Disco Godfathers - Spring 1904 - Th... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Oh, that's the way, I like it
That's the way, I like it
That's the way, I like it
That's the way, I like it

-----------------------------------

Lots of action in Spring 04.. Lots of action. France jigs his way into London but England does a side-step into Kiel while re-inforcing the island. Meanwhile, Russia gains Turkeys assistance and sends a message in Budapest... "You've Been Served."

Two retreats were the result of the Spring moves, but both only had one place to retreat to so I took the liberty. England's fleet in London was auto-retreated to Yorkshire, and the Austrian unit in Budapest was sent packing to Trieste. If OTB is preferred instead by either player, please just let me know.

Otherwise, we'll set the Fall 1904 deadline for Friday, January 26th (11:59 PM GMT). Just sing me a song if you spot any errors, please. Cheers!

DC131 - Replacement Argentinian EOG - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Heya heya,

Well, it was with some trepidition that I took up the reigns from Felix in this one. The competition was fairly intimidating. My congratulations to Mikael and Mike for being part of the solo, and my regrets to Erik that I did not get a chance to work with you longer.

I came into the game knowing that Argentina and Chile were locked in close combat. The obvious threat, of course, was Brazil to the north. Columbia was all but mopped up, and I knew that Argentina would be next on the menu after the appetizers were done. I tried to make the least amount of offensive moves to Chile as I could, while giving Columbia what meager help I could spare. After a few turns, it looked as though Chile did get the message and we both moved to stop Brazil.

I enjoyed being a part of the game, even if it was just for a couple of turns. My thanks to Steve for giving me the chance. See you all in this years DCI!! (I hope.) =P

Cheers!

Hey guys,
From the start and the fast opening, I had pegged Brazil as Mikael… tho I had Argentina and Colombia switched. I thought it was Eric that was relentlessly attacking me but it was Felix. Once Felix got that opening move into Pam, I was horribly bottled up for the rest of the game. I got some really lucky guesses all throughout that kept me from collapsing, and eventually pushed him back bit by bit. That's the whole of the game for me… 7 years of barely skating by each turn, hoping that either Brazil would hit Argentina from the north, or Colombia would collapse fast enough that Argentina would either have to turn or the game would be a solo.

Then Trout took, I supported him a couple times, and we put up a wall that I'm pretty sure was safe. Tho there were a few guess-points in it still around Yun / Prg, I think Brazil's lack of a Pacific fleet would have been a pretty heavy counterweight. As for playing Chile, this power sucks! That long thing strip of land is so incredibly hard to defend.

Overall good game, I'm happy to be alive in it.

My notes to Steve revolving around the dci scoring… As I said to you, had Mikael soloed this game, he would have won the dci outright… so a solo / 2nd vs a 2nd / solo, the 2nd / solo would win, instead of the two players tieing. There should be a simple fix to that in the scoring, tho it was unquestionably caused by the smaller map round 2, and so some changes had to be made to make it worth playing.

For the one gunboat game I will endure per year, it was fun…
Good game all,
-mike

Subject: Dci 2007 Final Standings.

Here are the final standings for the 2007 DCI.

I would like to congratulate Mike Sims who is this year's winner. From achieving a magnificant solo in the first game against 6 very strong players, Mike was able to force the second no press gunboat game into a Draw which netted him a final win in the DCI over Mikael. Due to some discrepancies and strong emotions, i will be changing the structure of the DCI next year. However as long as Mike is an active member of DC, he has automatically qualified for the 2008 DCI.

I would like to thank Mike, Erik, felix and Mikael for playing out the second game.
Congratulations to Mike, Trout and Mikael for their draw in Dc131.

I would like to thank Trout for GMing the first game and for stepping in when no-one else would in the second game.

The official standings are;

In 1st place and 2007 Dci winner on a score of 14 is Mike.
In 2nd place on a score of 10 is Mikael.
In 3rd place on a score of 9 is Former Trout.
In 4th place on a score of 5 is Felix.
In 5th place on a score of 4.5 is Eric.
In 6th place on a score of 3.5 is Kevin.
In 7th place on a score of 2 is Ray.
In 8th place on a score of 1 is Stephen.

Congratulations Mike. The question is whether you can now hold the title in 2008.

DC131 - Brazilian EoG - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Having learned what map we were playing, I made one decision - based only on intial position; If I could kill Columbia, then I would have a good game, If I ended up as, oh say, Argentina, then a strong Columbia on the other hand would be very nice indeed.

Getting Brazil, the choice was simple - kill Columbia, and try to help Argentina get a slight edge vs Chile. This somewhat worked, but it also forced me to hold off building fleets - or Argentina and Chile would just make peace and start clobbering me. In the end, neglecting fleets for too long meant that when they did turn, I did neither have the position, nor the right composition of troops to stop them. Especially Chile would quickly become a bother since my east coast had zero fleets.

In the end, a Dias was the only outcome I could hope for.

So,

- Congrats to Simster for taking home the Dci. I hope to challenge you next year Smile
- And thanks to our most excellent Gm's

Hope to catch ya all next game!

The DIAS passes with 4 yes votes. Since the draw passes, moves are not adjudicated and the board position remains the same from last year... (heh -- and the year before that, and the year before that... )

Final season: Spring 13 (Spring 208 BC).
25 seasons.
224 days of real-life time, making for an average of about 9 days per season.

That sure was confusing having the years count backwards!

Congratulations to:
Rupert / Gaul (15), Garry / Egypt (9), Steve / Scythia (Cool, and Trout / Persia (Cool for their 4-way draw!

In 5th place is Jerry / Rome, eliminated year 9
In 6th place is Lee / Carthage, eliminated year 6
In 7th place is Josh / Macedonia, eliminated year 5
In 8th place is Tony / Germania, Civil Disorder spring of year 12

I personally thought this map was outstanding, and enjoyed every minute of it! Also copied on this game-end are Tez and Kornel, the map creators in case you guys want to keep stats on it. There was some really great press too, which makes any game more entertaining. This is certainly a variant that I would consider playing in some time.

Looking at how things are now, I might have liked to see some action in the east... Rupert was 6 sc from a solo, surely gaining 6 would take quite a fight. Would that have been far enough off that he couldnt have gotten it? We will never know, at least you all felt it wasn't worth risking.

EGS's are definitely welcome and encouraged! Be sure to copy all.

Enjoy,

DC139 EOG Statement - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Well, I finally have enough time to sit down and write a brief end of game statement.

At the beginning of the game, I was pretty set on not fighting anyone until I was attacked or forced to fight. Egypt and Persia initially proposed a three country axis of evil to me which I accepted. At the same time I agreed to work with Rome for our mutual betterment. This provided interesting results with Egypt suggesting I take the Iberian peninsula to make my up to Rome. Rome suggested that we split the Western Med and work together. Somehow I managed to make both Egypt and Rome happy with my moves. Greece and I were having a delightful conversation about dalmatians, birds, and the ocean breeze.

Enter the Yahoo Turn of Death: With Mikael completely out of the picture due to Yahoo's inability to be a stable chat server, I was unsure how to play the turn. I believed that he was not responding to me due to his wanting to attack me. Felix told me to make a move on Rome. I made a last second decision before moves were due and submitted moves to fortify myself against Rome.

When the dust settled, I found that Mikael had come to the same conclusion that I had made. Completely out of position, I began to see Egypt's plan for me. I needed an additional SC and let Rome know that I was taking Sardinia. Some miscommunication between us ensued and suddenly I found myself fighting Rome. Furthermore, I found Egypt building up on my southern frontier. I pressed Felix for an hour online about his intentions and got him to ultimately admit he was working to attack me. I negotiated peace with Mikael and began working to reposition myself against Felix. Meanwhile, Andrew was telling me the apocalypse was coming in the form of Pergypt. With him faltering, I reached an agreement with him. If he would stay neutral towards Rome and me, I would try to ensure his survival.

I started trying to plant the seed of victory in Nathan's mind. I worked for a number of seasons to convince him to stab Egypt. Finally, after considerable talks he agreed. At the same time I kept warning Felix that Nathan was about to attack. When Petra and Crete changed hands, Felix realized his predicament and agreed to work with Andrew, Mikael, and myself to force a draw.

I left for Europe and tried my best to keep up with the game. I learned only recently of the End Game resolution.

Cheers and congrats to all for a game well played!

DC 134 Vote - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
It has been proposed that we have had too many replacements on this map and we need to push on before everyone loses interest.
To that end I will take a vote on breaking the stated house rules on this issue.
Please respond to this email by Wednesday evening, Jan 23rd.
Vote Yes to move the Whitecloaks to Civil Disorder, No to find a replacement.
I will go with a simple Majority, all votes required.
