DC 211: F1906 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Feb 09, 2009, 10:51 am)
A fond farewell to you, Mr. Mark of Turkey. You have finally been hunted down to your hole and gruesomely dismembered. I trust the experience was as fine for you as it was for Austria and Russia Smile Nothing more shall be required of you, except to know whether you wish to continue receiving adjudications in your inbox.

But there is no time to reminisce in the softly lit tones of a Kodak moment! Italy has been stabbed!?! (Maybe... as always, I can never say whether a 'stab' is real or illusory, but...). And England must choose where to cast his net in the North's inland sea. Shall he become a fisher of men? Of supply centers? Or merely of herring?

Retreats:
English F Sweden may retreat to Baltic Sea, Gulf of Bothnia, or OTB
French F Western Mediterranean may retreat to Tyrrhenian Sea or OTB
Turkish F Ankara may retreat but will avoid redundancy by disbanding.

Because our Austria will be away from the 12th through 17th, I would like to do retreats as soon as possible (preferably before the end of the working day). And that will give us space to set a Wednesday deadline for the F1906 Seismics. Then a Thursday deadline for Winter 1906.

Adjustments (assuming no OTB retreats):
SC Builds/Disbands
Austria 9 +1
England 6
France 8
Italy 3 -1
Russia 8 +1

Well, ain't this one just a hoot. Some clever moves this season. Italy closes one of the Iberian canals. France distances himself from Naples. Russia makes a puddle of the Barents Sea. England gets funky with Rule 8. And Turkey appears finally slated for discontinuation. Unless something else should occur.

Austria:
Split Ank/Arm, Join Bla/Smy (*Bounces with Turkish Order*)

England:
Split Ska/Swe - Join Nwy/Den
Note: English F Swe relocates to Sweden¢s eastern coast in accordance with Rule 8.

France:
Tys and Nap separate, Rom and Ion connect

Italy:
MAt/Spa disconnect Por/NAf connect. Delete canal in Spa to create two separate coasts.
Note: I am relocating the French F Spa to the east coast unless I hear otherwise from Matt.

Russia:
split Barents and StP, connect Nwy and edge of board.

Turkey:
Black sea and Ankara Sep; Armenia and Smyrna connect (*Bounces with Austrian Order*)

DC 211: Spring 1906 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Jan 23, 2009, 11:01 am)
The popular vacation destination for 1906? Sweden. And the lucky tourist ticket goes to... the lads of the British Skaggerak Fleet.

There is only one retreat. It is also a disband. So our next phase is S1906 Seismic.

We had one serious cartographic miscue this season. I apologize for confusion that may have been caused by my map – and I will redraw the fleet in Norway as a consequence so that it clearly resides on the west coast – but the fleet in Norway does not border on the Barents Sea. Norway has two coasts, as was specified by Mr. Lytton way back in S1901:

“My plan was (and should be clear...er) I DO not want fleet travel from Barents to NWG. No Isthmus, No strait etc.”

I am open to suggestions as making my maps clearer, and again, I apologize if I sowed befuddlement.

Of course, with a Seismic order coming up, the situation can now be rectified in a variety of ways.

Russia is absentee through January 30, so there will not be another deadline until Monday, February 2 at 1000 CST. Please get your seismic orders in before then, though.

DC 211: Fall 1905 Seismics - AceRimmer   (Jan 16, 2009, 9:48 am)
My apologies for the delay, but with internet KO¢d, I cannot do much. There were six orders, two of which bounced. On account of the Austrian seismic, Italy must decide whether to scrap the fleet or keep it landlocked in Venice. Reminder: a landlocked unit can only hold until another coast is opened for it.

If I get all adjustments before the end of the work day, I'll process. Otherwise, we'll have to wait until Monday. (I already have three sets of orders but need two more).

Austria:
Split Ven/Gol, join Rom/Pie

England:
Split Nwg/Nth - Join Edi/Nwy
Note: No isthmus choice indicated; strait exists between Edi/Nwy

France:
NAf and Wes split, Spa and Tun connect (*Bounces with Italy*)

Italy:

Russia:

Turkey:

It’s Autumn of 1905, and we have our first elimination. Thank you, Guile, for your commitment to this game. I would like to apologize for the behavior of your neighbors and wish you better in your next excursion. Let me know, Guile, if you wish to be removed from game-related emails.

Now, let me remind the rest of you that, even though the Seismic phase precedes the Adjustments phase, the looming elimination of Germany means that Germany gets no seismic order this year.

There is one retreat, and it has only one viable option:

French Fleet Western Mediterranean may retreat to Spain or OTB

I have adjudicated the fleet to Spain. Please correct me if you’d prefer to disband, Matt.

That leaves us with Seismic orders due on Thursday at 1000 CST (or when all orders are received). And adjustments (quite a few thanks to the Kiel retreats of the Spring) will be on Friday. See the end of the email for the list.

Terrible collision on the Autobahn! Two armies wiped out in Kiel! English and Russians claim violations of right-of-way -- "They should've stopped at the stop sign!"

Anyway... there's no need to update the map. Both units retreat to Kiel and are therefore disbanded. Seismics are due at 1300 CST Wednesday.

Greetings all, and congratulations on an eventful turn. Thank you for my patience, as I was on childcare responsibilities this morning.

There are three dislodged units. One gets disbanded, and the other two *may* be retreating to the same location. This is so exciting; I'm getting little tingly sensations up and down my spine.

Well, enough chit-chat. Here's the adjudication; please don't toss your laptop/monitor through your window when you read them.

Italy builds F Venice (new coast!)
Turkey scraps everything but F Black Sea

And now you get two weeks until your next orders:

If you have a spare moment between Christmas fraternizing, you might seize a reflective moment to re-orient your seismic strategies.

DC 211: Half-Retreat - AceRimmer   (Dec 18, 2008, 10:55 am)
I don't have a retreat from Turkey yet, but I'm going to adjudicate anyway and assume:

Russian A Retreats to St. Petersburg
Turkish A Retreats to Ankara

If Mark wishes to correct the above assumption, he should notify everybody. Russia's retreat is legit and confirmed. But this way, we can still have Seismics due tomorrow at 1000 CST. Then, next Monday, we can have the adjustments, at which time Mark may or may not disband the aforementioned army in Ankara.

Reverse conga line! Let’s back up the other way! But, for fun, let’s go through Kiel instead of Denmark. You guys are very entertaining, you know. And I like the way you are resurrecting the trench-warfare feeling of WWI by... well... by not going anywhere. Nor changing any boundaries.

Alright, so nobody asked the GM to be a wise ass. Consider it free in the bargain.

Retreats:
Russian Army Sweden may retreat to Finland, St. Petersburg, or OTB
Turkish Army Constantinople may retreat to Ankara or OTB

Deadline: Retreats ASAP but technically no later than Thursday at 1000 CST

I would still like to get seismics and adjustments processed this week, but I will trickle into next week if your negotiations require the full time (your negotiations always take precedence; they really do). Upcoming adjustments and SC counts are listed at the end of the adjudication.

Seismic frustration! The German provinces say, "Ni!" "Ni! Ni! Ni! Ni!" Terrorforming Der Vaterland ist verboten!

But the K-niggits of the Balkans and the Mediterranean are less intimidating, and the best they can manage is "Nu! Nu! Nu! Nu!" Austria, Italy, and Turkey get their moves.

As a reminder, please remember to look for isthmuses in your moves. This is not (by far) the first time somebody has created an isthmus and not submitted a preference for potential waterways.

Orders have been received from everybody, including the recuperating Mr. Lytton. There was a lengthy conga line stretching from Saint Petersburg to... Belgium? Well, that's not official. There's one retreat:

English Army in Holland can retreat to: Belgium or OTB

I have mapped the retreat to Belgium, but I can easily scrub the unit if Trout prefers a disband. Let me know within 24 hours, FT.

S1904 Seismics will be due on Thursday at 1000 CST.

Note: I checked my AMarSchwar(at)yahoo.com address, and only one player copied orders thither. Nor did anybody use the private message function from the DC forum. I do recommend the use of these safeguards, as I have screwed up once already this game. I'm just a time bomb ready to screw up again.

DC 211: Corrected F1903 Adjudication with Map - AceRimmer   (Nov 25, 2008, 2:23 pm)
After the Fall 1903 Adjudication, I received a protest from Italy that I had adjudicated using his prelims rather than his latest set of orders. Yesterday's sickness-induced haze notwithstanding, I find his objection to be valid, and I am re-adjudicating.

This past season, there were difficulties pertaining to my receipt of orders. To safeguard against unreceived or lost emails, in the future I exhort all players to cc: orders to my alternate (and very rarely checked... which makes it a useful backup) Yahoo account:

AMarSchwar(at)yahoo.com

[Note: orders sent to my AMarSchwar account will only be valid as a cc: to my smegdwarf account... I do not intend to check my AMarSchwar account except as a recourse to protests].

Another option recommended by Mike Sims is to use the Message Board / Private Message feature on the diplomaticcorp website. It causes an email to be sent from the website, so I then receive emails from two different sources.

After some technical difficulties, all orders have been received. There is only one dislodgement, and it has no valid retreat, so we are in line for a Seismic order Tuesday at 1000 CST. I will update the map tomorrow morning (Monday)... so don't remind me that I haven't attached the map!

For those looking ahead to the W1903 adjustments phase, I believe:
Austria gets 1 build
England gets 1 build
Germany has 1 disband

The new 1903 SC count will be:
Austria 6
England 6
France 7
Germany 1
Italy 4
Russia 7
Turkey 3

I would like to process the W1903 adjustments Wednesday at 0800 CST. Please note the early deadline (by two hours). If I do not have orders on time, the W1903 Seismic will have to wait all the way until next Tuesday (it’s all about access to the mapping software I use). As noted, I will be at Yankee Thanksgiving from mid-Wednesday through next Monday. [Note: 'Yankee' as in 'American', not 'Yankee' as in '<expletive> <expletive> <expletive-laden rant> New York Yankees'].
