DC143 winter 1904 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Austria adds yet another army to his arsenal, France builds a fresh fleet, and Germany rebuilds a fleet to replace the army removed during the autumn phase. England gives up one of his units that just retreated, and Russia scuttles his southern fleet.

Spring 1905 orders will be due next Tuesday 5/6 at 23:59 GMT. Thanks!

DC143 spring 1902 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
As I feared, both Italy and Turkey have fallen into Civil Disorder after suffering a second consecutive NMR. They are now out of the game. Those powers' units will all Hold, but will be automatically disbanded if dislodged -- and as you will see below, Austria takes immediate advantage. In anticipation of a question, yes, those of you who are still active can order your units to support a unit in CD.

In actual game action, Russia gains the Black Sea, and Austria moves to Aegean Sea. Russia's attempt to take Berlin fails, as Germany's F Sweden cuts a support. Germany moves to Ruhr, England occupies Belgium, and France dislodges the English F MAO. Austria takes Tyrolia, and with Italy in CD, the Italian army is disbanded.

The English F MAO may retreat to NAO, Irish Sea, Gascony, Western Med, North Africa, or off-the-board (OTB). With so many choices, England will have a Summer 1902 deadline tomorrow, Thursday 3/13 at 23:59 GMT. Michael, as I mentioned in a previous message, because of the time difference between GMT and US Central, you really will have nearly 48 hours to send your retreat order -- but a quicker response would be much appreciated. I will post the Summer 1902 result as soon as I see it.

I must admit, I wish we had a full complement of 7 dedicated players. But I do appreciate those of you who are still participating.

DC143 winter 1901 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Winter 1901 arrives, and plenty of new units join the fray. France adds two fleets, while England builds one fleet. All other builds are fresh armies. Turkey fails to submit orders, and as a result of his NBR, his build is waived.

In accordance with Andy's house rules on NMRs and Civil Disorder, both Italy and Turkey are at risk of slipping into CD this season. Following their fall 1901 NMRs, each of them must submit spring 1902 orders to stay in the game.

The spring 1902 deadline will be next Tuesday 3/11. I'll stick with Andy's "end of the day GMT" deadline, which for me is after I leave work for the day, so you actually have a bit of a grace period. I'll adjudicate the turn on Wednesday around 9:00 AM Central Daylight Time (the US and Canada switch to Daylight Saving Time this weekend), which I believe translates into 15:00 GMT. If you send orders before then, I'll still accept them. I strongly encourage players to send preliminary orders, and to indicate a version number along with the game number, country, and season in the e-mail header. Thanks, everyone!

Thanks to everyone who has sent in their build orders; each of you should have received a confirmation e-mail reply from me. I am still missing orders from at least one player -- it would be a shame to miss out on your first builds! Hello, everyone! I am your temporary GM while Andy deals with a serious real-life issue.

As Andy had noted in his last game e-mail, the next phase of the game is winter 1901 adjustments. While it appears that at least some of you sent in build orders, I don't have a copy of those, so I'll ask that everyone please send your winter 1901 builds to me.

In the interests of getting this game moving again, but also being fair to those (such as me!) who don't have regular Internet access on weekends, I'll set the winter 1901 deadline for Tuesday, March 4, at 3pm Central (US). That translates to 21:00 GMT, if I have converted properly.

Winter 1901 adjustments due:
Austria - build 2
England - build 1
France - build 3
Germany - build 1
Russia - build 1
Italy - no change
Turkey - build 1

Yes, even though Turkey suffered an NMR in the fall, the Sultan is still entitled to that build. Thanks for your patience, everyone!

DC143 European Times Issue #001 1901 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
READ ALL ABOUT IT, EUROPEAN TIMES ISSUE ONE ON SALE NOW, READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!!!!

Attached to this Communiqué is a complementary copy of The European Times. For Frontline leaders a wire of the major stories is included below:

TENSIONS RISE AS ARMIES MOBILIZE
EUROPEAN Leaders were today embroiled in bitter exchanges of words as tensions rose over various territory claims made by seven of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedffice:smarttags" />Europe’s largest countries. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedfficeSurprisedffice" />
ET understands that Austria, Russia and Turkey have all made claims and counter claims in regards to ownership of the Balkans whilst France, Germany and England are all attempting to take political control of Holland and Belgium.
The Spanish leadership has been notably quite following their recent military troubles abroad.
ET, as ever, will be there to bring you all the developments as they happen.

Reports of spying add
pressure to diplomatic situation
REPORTS have been received of French spies making contact with socialist agitators in London to encourage their activism against the Conservative government. Sources from within the English Ministry of War suggest that junior diplomats from the French embassy in London have been seen attending meetings of known revolutionaries and socialists in London's coffee shops and bars. Experts suggest that this is a new phase in France's recent provocative attempts to extend French interests beyond the continent, and comes only months after the rumoured extensive military exercises by the French fleet in the English Channel, and increased patrols by the army of the Third Republic in the Burgundy and Picardy areas. Speculation suggests that an uprising by socialists in London and within the English armed forces could be imminent.
Intelligence officials were unavailable for comment, but the English Foreign Minister made a statement in the House of Commons "Rumours of an increase in diplomatic tensions between England and their friends Germany and France are simply scurrilous nonsense circulated by revolutionaries in an attempt to destabilize the long standing treaties in place". An official statement is awaited from the French Prime Minister, whilst Germany’s response to increased army patrols seems to have been to make public statements supporting the ethnic Germans living in Burgundy, who have recently had land seized from them by local French farmers.

Italy fears Tunis
FEARS are growing that Italy may be drawn into a war in North Africa after it emerged last night that Tunisian leaders are mobilizing troops for an assault on Europe. The Tunisian Embassy in Rome was unavailable for comment.

United Kingdom?
NEWS coming out of the UK suggests that England may have to forget military support from Wales after last years Rugby Home Nations Competition victory revived Welsh calls for independence. A Welsh-born MP stated that if Wales could beat England at rugby then defeating them in matters of the economy and world affairs was next on the agenda. Meanwhile independent polls in Wales show nearly 90% of Welsh citizens back a split from the UK.
Scottish politicians in Westminster moved quickly to affirm their support for the British Parliament.

Military superiority gives army the edge.
THOSE of you who are regular European Times readers may be aware of the growing tensions between the seven ‘European Superpowers’ but any military buff will tell you that the army to fear is in fact neutral Switzerland. The Swiss army have access to such phenomenal weapons as The Swiss Army Knife as well as pin point accurate timing devises. It remains to be seen if any of the seven great power of Europe will attempt to lure Switzerland out of it’s neutrality to utilise this war-winning technology.

Communiqué ends.

DC143 fall 1902 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The vultures set upon Turkey and Italy quickly, as Austria and Russia each take a Turkish center, Austria captures Venice, and England (!) occupies Tunis.

In the north, Germany guesses correctly and regains Munich while holding on to Berlin. Germany and Russia battle to a standstill in Denmark, leaving it neutral for another year. France boots the Royal Navy out of the English Channel, while England gains previously neutral Belgium.

Both England and France have autumn retreat orders due. The French A Munich may retreat to Bohemia or OTB. The English F English Channel may retreat to Irish Sea, Wales, London, North Sea, Picardy, or OTB.

Everyone has winter adjustments as well, as follows:

Austria build 2
England build 2 (or build 3 if retreat OTB)
France remove 1 (or no change if retreat OTB)
Germany build 1
Russia build 1

In order to keep the game moving, let's make both the autumn 1902 retreats and winter 1902 adjustments due Thursday 3/20 at 23:59 GMT. Realistically, you have nearly 48 hours to send in your orders.

Thanks, everyone!

DC143 spring 1903 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Sorry for the delay, the illness that has been going around our house for the past 3 weeks finally got hold of me. I am glad to be back!

Plenty of action all around the board this season... Austria helps Russia into Ankara and gets support from England into the Ionian Sea, and also marches unopposed into Rome. The French navy moves aggressively to the waters around Liverpool, while England gains control of the English Channel. Germany sails into Denmark, while Russia brings two units adjacent to Sweden. And last but not least, Germany pushes a Russian army out of Silesia.

The dislodged Russian army in Silesia may retreat to Prussia, Warsaw, Galicia, Bohemia, or OTB. Shawn, your summer 1902 retreat is due at 23:59 GMT Tuesday 4/1.

Thanks for your patience, everyone!

Sorry for the delay, I had not received both sets of retreat orders in time to send out the results before leaving work Thursday.

The autumn 1904 retreats are as follows:

England:
F Belgium - English Channel
A Norway - St Petersburg

Germany:
disband A Silesia

As a result of England's retreat to StP and Germany's retreat OTB, the winter 1904 status is as follows:

Austria: Supp 11 Unit 10 Build 1
England: Supp 3 Unit 4 Remove 1
France: Supp 8 Unit 7 Build 1
Germany: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1
Russia: Supp 6 Unit 7 Remove 1

Yes, every remaining player has either a build or removal order due. The winter 1904 deadline is still over 24 hours away, on Tuesday 4/29 at 23:59 GMT. The updated map and RP file are attached.

DC143 fall 1904 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The knives are sharpened, and a few units fall victim to well-coordinated attacks. England is pushed out of two centers by combined French and German forces, Austria grabs an undefended Russian center, and Russia moves westward toward Germany.

There are 3 autumn retreats due:
The English F Belgium may retreat to English Channel, North Sea, or OTB.
The English A Norway may retreat to Finland, St. Petersburg, or OTB.
The German A Silesia may retreat to Berlin, Prussia, or OTB.

Winter 1904 adjustments will be as follows:
Austria build 1
England remove 1 or 2, or even, depending on retreats
France build 1
Germany even, or build 1 if retreat OTB
Russia even or remove 1, depending on English retreat

Normally, I would set both the autumn and winter deadlines for the same time. But with so much dependent on the English retreat in particular, I will run the two turns separately. Autumn 1904 retreats will be due tomorrow, Friday 4/25 at 23:59 GMT (I know that's an odd time, but I don't want to slow the game by 2 days just for retreats.) Winter 1904 adjustments, fully updated based on the retreats, will be due Tuesday 4/29 at 23:59 GMT. I will post the autumn results as soon as I have received both the English and German retreat orders.

Thanks, everyone!

A fair amount of action among the western powers, and a major push southward by both Russia and Germany in the east. Only one retreat is due, and no centers change hands.

The dislodged German army in Burgundy may retreat to Ruhr or OTB. To keep the game moving, I'll order the retreat to Ruhr. Kris, if you want to retreat OTB instead, please let me know today.

I will be away for a couple of days next week, so I need to set the next deadline slightly earlier than usual. Fall 1904 orders will be due Wednesday 4/23 at 23:59 GMT. Thanks!

DC143 fall 1903 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
We say goodbye -- or depending on your perspective, good riddance -- to both powers in civil disorder.

Austria makes the largest gains this year, taking control of the two remaining Italian centers and one of the two Turkish centers, while Russia picks up the other Turkish dot. France wrests away two English centers. And Germany gains the previously neutral Denmark. No other dots change hands, as three separate powers bounce in Sweden, leaving it under German control.

Only one retreat is due. The English fleet in Tunis may retreat to Western Med, North Africa, or OTB. Since England will also have removals due during the winter phase, we won't have a separate retreat deadline.

Winter 1903 adjustments will be due Thursday 4/10 at 23:59 GMT. All remaining powers get to participate:

Austria build 3
England remove 2 (or remove 1 if retreat OTB)
France build 2
Germany build 1
Russia build 1
