Grüß Gott!

The very first adjucation is always something special. One has only the (written) word of one's fellow players to go on. Hopes and fears of what the future holds make for a conflicting cocktail of emotions. Also, since this is only the second 1648 playtest, the comparison to the earlier game's first season holds some interest.

I should say our game features even less overt military conflict than the already pacific start of the first playtest, which saw both the opening shots in an Anglo-French and Turko-Spanish War as well as some ambivalent Swedish manoeuvres on Denmark-Norway's borders. In ours, the English Channel and Ionian Sea witness no such conflict. Instead, Sweden pulled a "Charles XII" and attacked the Tsar, whose own expansion plans were checked in the Southern Steppes. I wonder how long it shall take until other map areas heat up.

Let me thank all players for us being off to a smooth start, having dilligently forwarded me their correspondence and in some cases sharing their strategic intentions with me. It has been most instructive.

Few words on my adjucating. Since I'm entering all the orders into Realpolitik and letting it work things out, the map output takes precedence over the written results, simply because there's less scope for me to mess things up with the former. Rest assured that I scrupulously check and double-check DP allocations.

Talking of Realpolitik, I recommend you download the 1648 module from the DC site. I shall attach the latest .dpy file (a Realpolitik save game you can load once you've got the new module) to all adjucations.

Since there are no pending retreats, we'll be immediately moving on to Fall 1649, its deadline being next Wednesday, 28 October. Note though that preliminary orders need to be submitted by 6 PM CET on Monday, 26 October. I must say I'm really happy with this arrangement, since it provides an extra safeguard against NMRs and allows me to adjucate and discover any mistakes.

Cheers,

Charles

Diplomacy games may contain lying, stabbing, or deliberately deceiving communications that may not be suitable for and may pose a hazard to young children, gullible adults, and small farm animals.
