Grüß Gott!

I'm afraid other commitments this evening kept me from releasing the adjucation any earlier. Matters are certainly heating up across the continent. The English finally tasted their first salt water as both the Bristole and London squadrons set sail. Yet, apparently contrary to Danish expectation, the London fleet tacked north rather than patrolling the English Channel. The good citizens of Christiania now look to be defenceless in face of a possible English descent.

The Tsar's domains may not be quite as defenceless against foreign aggression, yet a formidable array of foreign forces are assembled on the Tsar's doorstep. The autocrat's hardy Don Cossacks however have grounds to boast about their Crimean exploits, though it is as yet unclear whether this expedition bears the character of a raid or that of outright conquest. In any case, older Russians must be bemoaning the return of the Time of Troubles that plaged poor Mother Russia earlier this century. It remains to be whether 1650 spells an end to the Romanov dynasty.

Further to the South Spain manage to crack down on Algiers' corsairs and install a new regime beholden to Madrid, thereby firmly bringing the whole Maghreb into Spain's orbit. A most timely development as tensions with the Porte are apparently on the rise. Perhaps the beneficiaries of King Phillip's focus on North Africa happen to be the Pope and the Doge, who've signed a pact of mutual assistance against the two Habsburg lines' expansionism. Indeed, a whole cordon of lesser powers within Italy and the Empire have yet to bow to outside pressure. The Dukes of Mecklenburg were the only princes in Central Europe to cow in face of foreign pressure.

As noted below, Poland-Lithuania needs to signal her retreat orders from the Crimean peninsula. For the other powers preliminary orders are due on Monday 6 PM CET.

Liebe Grüsse,

Charles

Diplomacy games may contain lying, stabbing, or deliberately deceiving communications that may not be suitable for and may pose a hazard to young children, gullible adults, and small farm animals.
