It really depends how gung ho you are. You can learn the game in an evening, it's not all that difficult. But the Winter Blitz is one hell of a forum in which to get your feet wet! I would suggest you just join the re001 standard game (see Open Games) which is a "normal" game here. It plays at about a week per turn, instead of 2-3 days. Let me know and I can pull you off the WB roster if you like.
