" 8 years down and only one person eliminated? "
I understand that Alan Callahamer, the inventor of Diplomacy (and someone I had the honor to meet at Weasel Moot II in Chicago) was known to have said that in a perfectly played game of diplomacy by perfect players, no power would ever be eliminated and the game would never end but by 7-way draw.
I happen to think that this greatest of games was not designed so perfectly as to make such an outcome feasible even among perfect players, but I get his point.
So in that regard, we are playing a pretty good game, and for the reasons i think he was driving at -- the alliances have shifted quickly in response to any player's seeming good fortune -- a reality I observe only too well of late.
