Hi everyone --

I want to begin by saying I really like this site (having played on the judges before), and I have a lot of respect for Trout, Mike Sims, and the others who volunteer their time to make it happen for the rest of us. That said, read on.

I was the one who protested. The Winter 03 reminder for our game said to take care of "retreats and other adjustments" and I took that to mean that we were to submit retreats or OTBs. Then we would have "builds" after that. I'm used to the separation of retreats and builds in games outside the tourny, but as Trout and the other TD pointed out to me, the rules of the tourny require retreats, other adjustments, AND builds to be submitted all at the same time.

I, of course, wanted to build an army in MAR to serve as a bulwark along with the retreated army in PAR -- who wouldn't? It's the clear logic of my position in France. So I argued that since allowing the build would not delay the game or hurt anyone's position (in fact, it will make for a logical, competitive game), that the tourny should treat it as a "no-harm-no-foul" situation. The tourny disagreed, arguing that my submission of a retreat-without-a-build was equivalent to the NMRs (No Move Received) that have already taken place in the tournament. I still think they are two different situations, but I respect Trout's decision to get on with business.

However, since the logic of my position has been compromised by a rule-based technicality, I don't see the sense in prolonging the now inevitable decline of the French position. So I am going into CD (Civil Disorder) by way of NMRs for the rest of this game. I think that will make the most sense.

Thanks for a good game, and good luck in the rest of the tourny.

Hi everyone,

After consultation, the Tournament Directors have ruled to uphold the Winter adjudication in DC-147. This we move onwards. The original Spring 1904 deadline of Monday, January 28th (11:59 PM GMT) will be maintained.

Thanks guys!

Trout
