First, as others have said, thanks for GMing this, Chris. These tight, fixed deadlines that the winterblitz requires make the task a bit too stressful, I think.
Okay, a bit brief as I didn't really get up to very much, but...
Opened with separate alliances with Turkey (Eric) and Germany (Hugh), but it must've been obvious to both straight away. The attack on Austria (Phil) was to be epic. Unfortunately, I got greedy and thought I could do it without Germany. I couldn't. The rest of the game was just push-retreat-push-retreat-possible alliance-push-retreat with Germany. I wish I hadn't turned on Germany (so early), but at the time I thought it was the right thing.
Phil, sorry about your experience in this game. Austria's a difficult power at the best of times and in this game it was a horrible position.
I did have a good opportunity to stab Turkey at one point. I seriously considered it and it probably was the right thing to do at that moment within this game, but I let it pass. I just wasn't sure.
I must go check-out these stalemate lines, as I was certain that I was in a very weak position. In fact, when I NMR'd* I was worried that France, Germany, and Turkey would decide to punish me and go for a three-way draw.
Anyway, it was a friendly game and I enjoyed it. Thank you all.
*I think my NMR was karmic (is that a word?). I'd just days earlier sent a rant in dc404 which included how "I never NMR, blah, blah, blah, ain't I wonderful, blah, blah". Two days later I NMR in this game. No-one to blame, but myself. It serves me right.
