Greetings all,
By now you’ve each received a starting map. You see it’s not like most maps you get, it’s hand edited to blank out that which you cannot see…
You’ll get a new map each spring and fall, with only “move” updates for retreats and/or builds. Your map is your diplomatic tool to do with as you please! Trading maps is fair game, as is altering them. Since everyone asks, I use Paint Shop Pro 5 to do my editing.
Newbies: There are so many new to the FOW variant this time! Some things to consider…
Remember that once your map gets out there, then it’s out there and it can get passed around freely by others! As well, anyone can fake anything they want. Doctoring maps is perfectly legal.

Some notes about orders, in particular the “Hold” order:
Each adjudication, you’ll be told the results of your orders like normal. However you’ll also learn the orders of
any unit that affects any unit of yours. You’ll also learn a lot more if you HOLD. If you hold, you’ll learn every order that affected every space adjacent to you. So consider the Hold order like an “Observe” order. The vets of this game will know that getting a centrally positioned unit and holding with it tends to learn a lot of information.

Lay of the land:
The Haven is laid out in a few continents that are all connected in unique ways. In the middle of the map are some lucrative neutral lands.
In general, the players are spread out around the edges. Somewhat.
The world wraps around from east to west. So there are no safe corners. Some of you already see points where the world wraps.
Rivers can be traveled by fleet. If you see a river (many of you already do) then you can move a fleet along it. One space at a time of course, just like normal movement. The river just means that fleets can move along the river spaces, much like Kiel in the standard game.

Other Stuff:
I’m still refining some of the wording on the abilities / powers, so they’ll be out later this week.
Feel free to cc me on any negotiations! Early stuff in particular, I’m interested to know how players go about selecting their opening moves since that’s what I use to build future maps!
Prelims are highly recommended. Especially with this large of a map, it’s good when I have orders in on time since I typically set aside an evening to prep all the maps. When I get to the turn, I do enforce NMR’s – anyone who’s played in one of my games and missed a deadline probly knows this already.
First deadline: Friday Feb 22, 2pm Pacific
