DC191 Study In Baltic - Spring 1905 - The Beryl Coronet
The man sat in the compartment as the train lurched north from Konigsberg. A passenger train, it had been converted into a troop transport moving north to reinforce the new territories gained in Russia. Rowdy, boisterous Polish soldiers crowded the aisle - cheering into the passing countryside. The man sat alone, however - none of the enlisted troops venturing into his company. Occasionally one would look in, but invariably they would halt at the door, mutter a quick apology and leave the darkened compartment for the more confined space of the hallway and the cheery presence of their comrades.
If you had asked any of them, they would have told you they didn't know why they wouldn't enter the compartment - with its sole passenger and the beryl coronet beside him... It was just, they would have continued, that the aisleway felt safer...
The man sat in the compartment, thinking about his mission. A personal trip, he was in business for himself this time - although his new employers had provided him with transport and certain necessities. He had heard an old friend was travelling to Finland, leaving the safety and familiarity of his London operations behind him... And now, with this old acquaintance out of his element, it was time to settle a long-festering score.
Mr. Holmes was about to have a debt repaid... with interest.

Heya folks,
Poland continues to make gains, this time securing Bolmen from the Swedish and retaking the key province of Narew from the Russians. The Russian unit there was dislodged, but had only Brest to retreat to so I took the liberty. (Chris, if OTB is preferred then please just let me know.)
Otherwise we can move on into Fall 05. Deadline will be set for Monday, September 1st (11:59 PM GMT).
Cheers all!
