SV: dc422 Autumn 05 adjudication - offdisc   (May 11, 2012, 1:53 pm)
I also just ran into this, using Real World.  It auto-disbands for retreating armies following an NMR. I choose to override that, especially if I can find a replacement.

Sorry guys I thought that I had sent in my moves but somehow they never left. And they  would have worked too. That said Army Spain cannot be disbanded but retreats to Portugal, which is empty, instead.

I've always found Diplomacy to be very similar to Chess, although much more fun. Smack Talk, Multiple enemies, but the basics are the same: think three or more moves ahead, get your opponents to fall into your traps, and move tiny pieces around a board. Eventually though, some pieces are captured and removed from play.
And so we bid Adieu to the Barbarians, Rogues, and Wizards who join the Centaurs and Elves on the sidelines.  Good Game guys!

dc394 w11 builds! -- Changing Subject to World Dip... - Jim-Bob   (May 11, 2012, 5:23 am)
Hi all,
As this game goes into its final stages, I THINK I've said this before here, but in case I haven't....
Most of you may have played Diplomacy mainly by E-Mail but there is a long standing now (25 years) tradition of holding World DipCons that bring the worldwide Diplomacy hobby together.  I've personally been to a number of World DipCons in North America plus ones in Europe (both UK and Paris).  In the "old days" (the early days of the World DipCons) we had as many as 330 attendees, but numbers have been less than half that lately.  I am on what I'm calling the "Drive for 330" to hit these numbers again.  Having World DipCon in Chicago, one of the great American cities and easy to reach from anywhere seems a good way to do this. Think about joining us!!!

The Weasels are hosting the 2012 World Diplomacy Championship and the 2012 North American Diplomacy Championship. It all goes down Aug. 10-12 at the historic Congress Plaza Hotel in downtown Chicago. Preregistration is now open. What are you waiting for? Sign up now and save yourself $10.

Ask if you have any questions.  I don't think I've met our GM Mike (that's right, isn't it?) but I'm really hoping to meet him in Chicago.  I hope kids in baseball don't get in the way of getting him to Chicago....

Cheers!

Hmm. This is a good point from John. I've just used Realpolitik to adjudicate, and I can't see why Spa can't retreat to Por, rather than get disbanded. Can anyone else see this?If anyone can see that reason, please reply all ASAP. Otherwise, I will edit the file to allow the retreat to Por (should John choose to). That would mean we must add one disband to France's quota. The deadline remains 2000GMT this evening. You should all assume John has the choice of the retreat, unless anyone can convince us all otherwise. JeromeSent from my BlackBerry® smartphoneFrom: "John Robillard" <john.robillard(at)telia.com>

Also… A bit of press… Germany troops retreat in disarray thanks to communication errors in Den.  The plan failed on southern front when Tri was not defended and Russia did not capture Vie as planned.  To make matters worse AH retreated to Tyo.  Great plan which would have worked but for poor execution.  The Kaiser promoted up and out General Polley to the Minister in charge of Russian affairs.  Russian mobilization on Eastern front reported.  Looks grim for Germany.  It is reported that The Turk now has game well in hand.  Will Victory turn that 10.7 into 24 for historical triumph?

DC 420: Fall 1905 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (May 10, 2012, 2:50 pm)
Curiouser and curiouser.

This is, I must say, one of the stranger adjudications I've ever GM'd.

First: as you all have already guessed, there is not peace.  AIT fails.

Second: England leaves Kiel unsupported in order to protect North Sea and to race back to Liverpool (now that the Russian fleet is already in town and terrorizing the Liverpudlians).  Kiel is safe, because AIRT choose to focus on Marseilles instead.

But most of all... Third: France submits an entirely bollixed set of orders -- unless we're playing a game of Seismic diplomacy, in which case it is entirely possible that Ruhr *does* abut Warsaw and that Portugal *can* support Western Med into Portugal(?!?) and that Marseilles *can* support this non-viable order to a non-adjacent territory.  Confused?  I sure am.  But I'll wager that Joe is the most confused of all.
The upshot is that France, functionally, has ordered five units to hold, and this means that AIT should have succeeded in whatever plan they devised.  So, what did they devise?  They pulled Spain back into Marseilles.  Yup.  AIT would surely kick themselves for a missed opportunity, except that the one French unit that actually has viable orders (A Gas-Bre) vacates a path for Italian and Turkish fleets to advance into MAt and Gas.  In the end, everything continues to come up AIRT, but it sure was a weird little season.

There are no retreats (the French fleet in Marseilles disbands), so we advance to Winter 1905 with the following:
Austria:   Supp  7 Unit  7 Build  0
England:   Supp  4 Unit  5 Remove  1
France:    Supp  5 Unit  5 Build  0
Italy:     Supp  1 Unit  1 Build  0
Russia:    Supp  8 Unit  7 Build  1
Turkey:    Supp  9 Unit  8 Build  1

Fall 1905:

Austria:
A Bohemia Supports A Tyrolia - Munich (*Fails*)
A Munich - Burgundy (*Fails*)
A Piedmont Supports F Spain(sc) - Marseilles
A Rome Hold
A Tyrolia - Munich (*Fails*)
F Tyrrhenian Sea - Gulf of Lyon
A Venice - Tyrolia (*Fails*)

England:
F Edinburgh - Clyde
F Holland Supports F North Sea
A Kiel Hold
F North Sea Hold
F Norwegian Sea - North Atlantic Ocean

France:
A Burgundy Supports A Ruhr - Warsaw (*Fails*)
A Gascony - Brest
F Marseilles Supports F Western Mediterranean - Portugal (*Disbanded*)
F Portugal Supports F Western Mediterranean - Portugal (*Fails*)
A Ruhr - Warsaw (*Fails*)
F Western Mediterranean - Portugal (*Fails*)

Italy:
F Mid-Atlantic Ocean - Gascony

Russia:
F Clyde - Liverpool
F Denmark Hold
A Finland Supports F Norway
F Norway Supports F St Petersburg(nc) - Barents Sea
A Prussia Hold
F St Petersburg(nc) - Barents Sea
F Sweden Supports F Denmark

Turkey:

F Constantinople - Aegean Sea

F North Africa - Mid-Atlantic Ocean
F Spain(sc) - Marseilles

It is France's position that Europe can be equally ruled under the auspices of France, Russia and Italy.

See, that's what I thought! Didn't I proclaim the thing over after England's ill-advised grab of Holland? J

I knew it!  I couldn't possibly get this out right at 8am.  I got pretty close tho, at 9:30...

Some pretty big swings here, as Austria and France go up a combined 5, while the only one to have to remove is England... due to an NMR.  Nwy and IRI will come off if not ordered otherwise.  Austria is spared from having to remove his last units, as Italy takes care of that for him.  Smile

NEXT!  3 sets of builds... due tomorrow / Friday 8am Central!

*These go back to Christine as usual*

Enjoy,

-mike

I think Austria made this claim early on as well.
