DC397 Fall 1907 Results - politesociety   (Feb 01, 2012, 8:30 am)
Just a quick reminder that Spring 1908 orders are due in just under 8 hours.

Also, I had some time the other day and updated the diplomaticcorp game page. I'll do better at that when I GM future games (and maybe I'll write commentary as well, who knows?)

thanks

Eric

And so we enter endgame... I've kept my comments to myself for the most part during this game, and I'll keep doing that now, but let me just say, this could get interesting.

Only one retreat, and since there was only one place to go (Moscow to Sevastopol) I went ahead and moved the unit. Gerry, let me know if you want something different.

DC394: Dark Horse Candidate - The_Blurbist   (Feb 01, 2012, 8:12 am)
That clinches it. I'm casting my throw-the-game vote for the Rogues. He polls well in the western continent, the soccer moms swoon over his "bad boy" image, and his financial disclosure forms reveal an influx of Leprechaun gold that will let him swamp the southern continent with negative ads targeting the Knights.

Plus his wife, Princess Zelda, is hawt!

Whoops... Rogues ordered Daisy-Ella.  This means...

Rogues capture It.  Faeries have no home centers!  Ella is disbanded, NRP.  No change to Faeries "Remove 2".  Rogues get "Build 4".

New map after builds!

Onlookers watch with bated breath to see who scores the Leprechaun gold, this is the new key to the game.
Reminder I'm buried in templecon prep and operations so spring needs to be next week please.

Dang it!  Sometimes my mouth shoots off and I can't control it.
I should never have disclosed that my wife was only 5'4"; looking back, it's WAY too obvious that she's a Leprechaun and I already have the keys to the treasure chest.

Drat Drat Drat!

Or "Yea" for me! Smile

One order missed:   Archer F Endor -> RIft Canyon

One order under dispute:  Centaur F Mist -> Crystal.

The missed order doesn't affect anything except the specified unit. However, the disputed order may cause a restructuring of the Northern borders.

Sorry for the errors.  I will fix them, where necessary, later tonight and send out new results.

Thanks for your patience,
Mike

The powers that be declared that Mist -> Crystal is an *invalid* order.  And I learned something new about the way RW works.

Usually I catch these and allow the player to fix the error before processing. However, I did not in this case.

So, with the eye of fairness watching over my shoulder, I will NOT be checking future moves for correctness.  Feel free to *ask* me about the validity of a move, but any typos or misorders from this point forward will be accepted as intended.

I usually invoke this rule in 1904, so only early by 2 years.

For correctness, can we have an exception (or at least an honest attempt) to catch invalid orders due to references to invalid territories? Because of the tightness of the board, sometimes a unit is placed over a territory name (the Pirate army in "The High Way" is a good example) and it's easy to make a mistake there... Just a thought

I'd also suggest that no one submit orders on a phone with autocorrect... I've already had my phone screw me a couple times (or try to)

I also learned that "UNDEAD" gets auto-corrected to "Infrastructure" (at least on an android)... go figure...

Of course, you *could* just turn off Auto-Correct. Smile

I will usually mention to the player if I can't make heads or tails out of an order. But if the order looks correct, then I'll prrocess it.

Also, if you have questions about a territory name, remember to check the map at:

http://www.dipwiki.com/?title=Haven

Thanks,
Mike

I'd also suggest that no one submit orders on a phone with autocorrect... I've already had my phone screw me a couple times (or try to)

Hey all... the time has come for us Hobbitses to celebrate whatever-it-is again and as you may know, that takes a whole long weekend.  I'll be unable to respond to emails until Sunday evening at the earliest.  Thankfully, there are no orcs roaming about and the only black riders are way up in the north.  I'm sure there will be much to say when I get back.

Jeff,
If the order makes some sense, I will usually clarify with the player.  For example: ordering DM -> Ella instead of Dai -> Ella. I know you're talking about Daisy Meadows, so I'll enter that order unless after clarification the player tells me the misorder is deliberate.

Give Joe a break... he's a Hobbit!  They can't hold more than one small little knife and a tiny shield. How many centers do you think he can take in one stab?
Silly little Hobbit --- big stabs are for BIG people.

Is there a third option available? Because those two options either don't exist or don't make sense. It was a one-center stab by an isolated unit that gained Joe a total of two builds this winter while you're getting three. So right now you, the second biggest power, are threatening to throw the game to punish a stab that did you no damage made by a power that poses you no threat.

Hey, I never ever said I was quitting or was interested in having another
play for me, no way! I am dedicated to the game and making certain a stab
on me (by a supposed close ally) will not be rewarded. He was warned of the
consequences, I am simply following through with a promise. And what is
wrong with such a ploy? You stab someone, you better make damned sure it
will not backfire. Or am I to allow the stab to work and simply let him
take my centers? That isn't right either now is it?

If someone is tired if playing I am sure that they can trade places with
the Wizard King and they can enjoy that challenge. The WK would gladly take
a power and teach them how to survive (for a bit anyway) when all looks
grim.

A solo is impossible on this board if you truly use Diplomacy guys. Trust
me if it were possible to solo as the Knights i would have done so in the
last Haven game!

Come on! Be ye mice or Pirates? Savvy?

Wizard King (in hiding until that spell kicks in. Now where was that

Hey, I never ever said I was quitting
or was interested in having another
play for me, no way! I am dedicated to the game and making
certain a stab
on me (by a supposed close ally) will not be rewarded. He
was warned of the
consequences, I am simply following through with a promise.
And what is
wrong with such a ploy? You stab someone, you better make
damned sure it
will not backfire. Or am I to allow the stab to work and
simply let him
take my centers? That isn't right either now is it?

If someone is tired if playing I am sure that they can trade
places with
the Wizard King and they can enjoy that challenge. The WK
would gladly take
a power and teach them how to survive (for a bit anyway)
when all looks
grim.

A solo is impossible on this board if you truly use
Diplomacy guys. Trust
me if it were possible to solo as the Knights i would have
done so in the
last Haven game!

Come on! Be ye mice or Pirates? Savvy?

Wizard King (in hiding until that spell kicks in. Now where
was that
staff...)

Welcome back to the show, ladies and gentlemen. We're

Let's take a look at the tote board and see how the
contributions are
coming along. Look at that! 21 centers! Not bad at all, but
still not even
halfway to our goal of 52. We need to get those phones
ringing!

Wait, there's a phone call now. Who's on the line,
Shirley? Why it's Tom
from the Pirate Shoals! And he's calling in with a
contribution of . . .
his last remaining measly 13 centers! How generous!

You see, folks? Even when you're on the brink of
poverty, beset on all
sides by hardships and calamities, you can still dig deep
and--What's that?
He just looked under the cushions and found 3 more centers
he grabbed last
year? And he's donating those too? Amazing! But I guess when
you only have
16 centers to your name, there's not much else you can do
with them.

So let's update the tote board. Tympani please . . . 37
centers! Only 15
more to go! C'mon, people! Get on the phone. The Pirates
can't do this all
themselves!

Now I'd like to welcome the Undead Choir of
Necronomicon to the stage!
What? What do you mean they're not here? We sent a limo!

A solo is impossible on this board if you truly use Diplomacy guys. Trust me if it were possible to solo as the Knights i would have done so in the last Haven game!

But whoever started this discussion probably made it harder for me to win
