WBB4 - Fall 1911 Correction - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Turkey's orders were lost in a shuffle and miss filed. To help clarify this please ensure all your emails with orders have the following information - what game they are for, what country they are for, and what year they are for. This makes adjudicating far easier and also means your email is less likely to end up in spam.

Updated map and files attached:
France:
A Belgium Hold (*Dislodged*)
F Brest Hold
F Gulf of Lyon Hold
F Liverpool Hold
F London Hold (*Dislodged*)
A Marseilles Hold (*Dislodged*)
A Paris Hold
F Western Mediterranean Hold (*Dislodged*)

Russia:
F Black Sea Supports A Rumania
A Budapest Supports A Venice (*Fails*)
A Burgundy - Marseilles
F Edinburgh - Clyde
F English Channel - Brest (*Fails*)
A Holland - Belgium
A Kiel - Munich
F North Sea Supports A Yorkshire - London
F Norwegian Sea - North Atlantic Ocean
A Piedmont Supports A Burgundy - Marseilles
A Ruhr Supports A Holland - Belgium
A Rumania Supports A Budapest
A Sevastopol Supports A Rumania
A Trieste Supports A Venice
A Tyrolia Supports A Venice
A Venice Supports A Piedmont
A Yorkshire - London

Turkey:
A Ankara Supports A Constantinople
A Bulgaria Supports A Serbia
A Constantinople Supports A Bulgaria
F Ionian Sea - Tyrrhenian Sea
F North Africa Supports F Tunis - Western Mediterranean
A Rome Supports F Tuscany
A Serbia Hold
F Tunis - Western Mediterranean
F Tuscany Supports F Ionian Sea - Tyrrhenian Sea

Net Change - I need an additional retreat from France for Wes Med. Options include Spain and MAO.

DC140 "Never Ending Story" fall 1905 res... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Once again, plenty of movement orders in the north, but this time, there is some movement. England manages to push the French fleet out of the English Channel, but the King will have one fewer fleet on the board, as the combined efforts of Germany and France scuttle the English fleet in Belgium. In the south, Italy marches into Serbia, while Russia moves unopposed into Budapest with Turkish support. Austria is finally eliminated from the game.

There is one retreat due -- the French F English Channel may retreat to Brest, MAO, or OTB. Kyle, your autumn retreat will be due along with the winter 1905 adjustments.

While Germany gains a center this turn, the Kaiser has no unoccupied home center in which to build. Italy takes control of Serbia but loses Bulgaria to Turkey. And because Turkey suffered a forced disband in the spring, the Sultan gets to rebuild that unit as well.

Both the autumn retreat and winter adjustments will be due Thursday 3/20 at 3pm Central (US). Winter 1905 adjustments are as follows:

France build 1 if retreat OTB, otherwise even
Russia build 1
Turkey build 2

DC166 - Winter Blitz Game WB0821 - Game Launch!! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Heya folks,

Welcome to Winter Blitz Board 1 of Round 2. (Game WB0821). I'm Former Trout, and I'll be your humble GM for the game. I'm happy to say that most of you on this board know me pretty well already. However, for those that don't, I'll follow your lead and blab a little about my ownself..

I'm a 30 year old Engineer living in the Big Murky of Northern Alberta. I drive a Smartcar and have a dog thats really much smarter than I am. My first game of Dip occurred after we found an old board in a university dorm room, ended up in a fist-fight that got broken up by the cops, and was followed by a second game the very next night. I've pretty much been hooked ever since.

There's not much to say about the schedule of the Blitz - you folks have all experienced round 1. Two reminders if I might, that I don't feel can be mentioned enough:

1. Orders should be copied to (orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com (orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com)). This is CRUCIAL. If, for whatever reason, I am unable to adjudicate then Mike Sims will look in the orders box for what has been submitted. If you don't copy your orders there, you will be NMR'd in this event.

2. NMR's WILL HAPPEN! Please use prelim orders. There are NO grace periods in the Blitz - due to the frantic pace of the schedule.

That's it, easy peasy. Country assignments are listed below - let's get it on!

Spring 1901 orders are due Monday, March 24th (11:59 PM GMT). Cheers!

Trout

dc155 ~ Killing Cousins - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
My email and FTP kept telling me my password was bad, so I couldn't send out, or upload the game results.

As I am able to get into my web-mail now, I assume the problem is corrected and I will get the game out tonight.

I will allow changes up until 2359 GMT, so this is, in effect, a deadline extension.

DC143 fall 1902 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The vultures set upon Turkey and Italy quickly, as Austria and Russia each take a Turkish center, Austria captures Venice, and England (!) occupies Tunis.

In the north, Germany guesses correctly and regains Munich while holding on to Berlin. Germany and Russia battle to a standstill in Denmark, leaving it neutral for another year. France boots the Royal Navy out of the English Channel, while England gains previously neutral Belgium.

Both England and France have autumn retreat orders due. The French A Munich may retreat to Bohemia or OTB. The English F English Channel may retreat to Irish Sea, Wales, London, North Sea, Picardy, or OTB.

Everyone has winter adjustments as well, as follows:

Austria build 2
England build 2 (or build 3 if retreat OTB)
France remove 1 (or no change if retreat OTB)
Germany build 1
Russia build 1

In order to keep the game moving, let's make both the autumn 1902 retreats and winter 1902 adjustments due Thursday 3/20 at 23:59 GMT. Realistically, you have nearly 48 hours to send in your orders.

Thanks, everyone!

DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Spring 2006 - Har... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Aw Sims... in this game there was no disconnect between my words and my orders to anyone until HL decided to fudge a foolproof (or so I thought) plan to take MON and QUE from you. And not since I sought retribtution for his actions has there been disconnect. Twice HL screwed me since (justifably) and for several turns BC has spoken great things towards peace in the NE, yet his rush of units to the region paint an entirely contrasting picture.

You're just mad and upset that you were jumped on first - before you got yourself established enough to turn on HL or I. I'm just mad because I had too much confidence in the compotence of HL. I put too much trust in BC when clearly he didn't deserve any, and at present you are just an extension of him.

The fact of the matter is HL will lose his centers before he gains anything significant from me. Your in a position to lose both your SC's this turn and surprisingly even after my misorder, I am not in terrible position in the short term.

In the long term, unless BC and Cali crack or Mexico makes immediate moves to flex some naval muscle in the Pacific, then the game is over. Not one to throw in the towel, but another season or two on the current course and our little love triangle in the NE will be a distant thought.

Rob

Ya know if you’d stop dropping your front line units maybe you could stop those huge empires in the west. I’m sure you’ll keep going at me tho, the little guy with two measly fleets just trying to stay alive, and Cali/BC will keep expanding. But of course you prefer me as your enemy, you’ve made that clear.

guess I have swallowed my words eh Sims

I didn’t know you used words. Based on the complete disconnect between what you’ve said this game and what you’ve ordered, I figured you were just speaking gibberish.

Fuck... Fuck.... Fuckitty Fuck Fuck Fuck!!!

Our sage guru of all guru-ness plucks this from his Spring 2006 Fortune Cookie: You will soon be more aware of your growing awareness.

Course, we're all aware of hind-sight. Mexico puts on an eye-patch and peg-leg, moving into Carribean waters. New York continues to struggle against the wrath of the previously-stabbed and the weather channels split in disagreement over the coming Canadian cold front or Sunny Californian glow...

One retreat required after all of that - the New York fleet in the Gulf of St Lawrence finds itself finding a new port. Either Newfoundland or Quebec , the American sailors will soon find themselves in a land with strange-speaking people. Deadline for the Summer 2006 retreat will be set for Sunday, March 16th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers all. Please just let me know if you spot any mistakes.

DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Spring 2006 - Har... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Just to set the record straight Rob (in case you or anyone else is interested) - the HL 'fudge' of the foolproof plan came at least in part due to my instigation - I thought he might be interested to know that you thought of him as being (I quote) "easily manipulated" and passed along those words of yours.

I have to admit, once I found that you viewed your relationship with your allies as one of mere manipulation, I lost interest in any long term relationship with you, even if that meant risking HL and Quebec combining to hit me in the future.

Frankly I wonder why Florida still sticks by you, and how manipulable you think he is.

That all being said, I don't see how this game is at the point of being proposed as a BC/Cali draw, when there's an alive and powerful Mexico and Florida that could easily contest that draw. And nothing says Cali or Florida couldn't pursue a solo venture. There's a lot of game left, methinks, and I'm sure there's plenty of chance that I'll also enjoy the feeling of clinging to a last few provinces (Artic Pirates Ho!) at some point...

And I hope you'll enjoy that feeling as well, before the end.

Andrew

Aw Sims... in this game there was no disconnect between my words and my orders to anyone until HL decided to fudge a foolproof (or so I thought) plan to take MON and QUE from you.

Rob

I can say "without a doubt that HL has NOT been sporadic and flip flopping all game and show proof"

: without a doubt that HL has NOT been sporadic and flip flopping all game and show proof :

There I accept your resignation.
-mike

PS...
However accepting that this is yet another statement not intended for the "truth" column in this game's tally of New Yorker verbiage, I'll assume it's more of that gibberish and you didnt intend for the words to arrange themselves into sentences when you spewed them out.

Andrew,

firstly I think you are thinking of the wrong foolproof plan as our communication when HL fudged it wasminimal long before my "easily manipulated" statement. And the funny thing about your declaration of my statements further solidifies my statement regarding HL. If there is anyone on this board than can say without a doubt that HL has NOT been sporadic and flip flopping all game and show proof then I will resign... right I guess I play on...

And if you accurately read what I wrote - not interpret what you want and how it suits you best - you will clearly see, and I quote "unless BC and Cali crack or Mexico makes immediate moves to flex some naval muscle in the Pacific, then the game is over." If those things happen then yes there is much to play for. But last seasons moves show Mexico edging more and more into the Caribbean and shows only the faint and probably staged movement north of a lone Cali fleet.

So like i said, and again I quote "another season or two on the current course..." and there won't be much left to discuss.

DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Spring 2006 - Har... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
GM refuses to accept New York players resignation. Too much paperwork....

There I accept your resignation.

Andrew

Please refrain from declaring my moods. I am not mad, or upset. Rather I've been enjoying the game since you (Rob) devoted an empire 4 times my size to eliminating me, and you have nothing to show for it... and in fact lost 2 centers last round. You're so worried about BC rounding that corner or me living to say "hah" that you are conceding the center of America to California and BC so as to ensure my demise. That is in a way the ultimate compliment that you are giving up your own game to take mine.

However in the same breath, you're bitching about how Cali and BC wont stab each other, when you're bailing on the center of the map in favor of retaining an army in Gas is just handing them more centers and growth w/o having to stab the other. You are feeding the monster that you're complaining about, while getting very unlucky in the battles agaisnt me.

"You're just mad and upset that you were jumped on first - before you got yourself established enough to turn on HL or I."

I think Andrew's comments are right on, and this edifies them. For had you (and Heartland) not stabbed our trio, we would be in the 3 power positions, and everyone else on the map would be encouraging us to stab the other. See this is where your logic falls apart, for you ASSUME that an alliance wont work, and that someone will stab it. However we can see that if players stick to it, then it works. You didnt give ours a chance. You basically stabbed, admittedly so that I couldnt stab you first, and anyone who approaches an alliance like that, will find themselves often alliance-less, facing those who are stronger, urging them disappointedly to stab the other.

"Your in a position to lose both your SC's this turn "

Are you proud of this? You've spent your whole game trying to elim one player, I've survived way longer than I should have, and you're coming up on the short end of the alliance stick after our trio had the best opening possible in this game. Andrew would be toast if you hadn't turned, and Heartland and myself would now be beating on the door of California (sorry Ray!). However, yes, I am in a position to lose my SC's, so kudos to you for a great start well squandered. Smile

Subject: DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Spring 2006 - Hard On Equipment

Andrew,

firstly I think you are thinking of the wrong foolproof plan as our communication when HL fudged it wasminimal long before my "easily manipulated" statement.

Rob

Ya know if you'd stop dropping your front line units maybe you could stop those huge empires in the west. I'm sure you'll keep going at me tho, the little guy with two measly fleets just trying to stay alive, and Cali/BC will keep expanding. But of course you prefer me as your enemy, you've made that clear.

guess I have swallowed my words eh Sims

I didn't know you used words. Based on the complete disconnect between what you've said this game and what you've ordered, I figured you were just speaking gibberish.

Fuck... Fuck.... Fuckitty Fuck Fuck Fuck!!!

…pretty much confirms that.

Andrew

Ack! Political insults! Curses, I thought I'd left ye behind for good at Berkeley...ah well, if we be indulging, here goes:

All whom I dislike, hear me and tremble! For I name thee mother-goat loving imperialist pigdog capital pillaging robber-baronlike infidelic scum! (spoken in a distinctly farsi-scottish brogue hybrid for best effect.)

Can I heckle over typos if the verbiage isn't in play? Though 'pitty' rather strikes me as a dead useful word, were it to be invented. Though the rules regarding its use escape me, but I leave that to the Webster people.

There I accept your resignation.

Sims,

All in the perspective of the wronged. I have played this game long enough to know that a geographic situation like ours would not sustain a long term, successful 3 way alliance. In the same way a E/G/F alliance or a T/I/A alliance in Vanilla Dip cannot last. A wise friend of my tought me this valuable piece of advise (occasionally the hard way) in some FTF games. An ally is no longer an ally if they have a shot at 2 or more SC's. And in 8 years of actively playing this game I have found that theory to be true 95% of the time. Sooner or later our borders would have ended up establishing that exact status.

If you want to see whether I am capable of being a solid and secure ally, look at DC136 where I have worked with Germany from the start to both of our benefit. Germany unfortunately made a wrong guess one turn that hurt him significantly and is just climbing back up from that with the trusted help of yours truly. So yes it can be done. But more often than not, it falls apart.

Lastly before you go blaming me for my choice of adjustments, I suggest you look more at HL and him vacating his line and cooperating with BC dispite my continued support and petitioning to ensure he did not lose MIS to Cali 3 years ago. So don't point the finger on me for the advance of Cali and BC. The line that fell apart which will open the door for them was and is HL. Period. so cus him out too while you are putting the blame on me handing the game over to them. I did my level best to restore peace and support HL and he chose to side with BC. Now tell me who is handing the game over?

Perspective.

Rob

Smile

Aw Sims... in this game there was no disconnect between my words and my orders to anyone until HL decided to fudge a foolproof (or so I thought) plan to take MON and QUE from you.

…pretty much confirms that.

NY/BC joint victory proposed...

You Got luckly this time Sims... Net problems kept me from checking my orders thoroughly... Fucking 3rd world inter-fucking-net... anyways... guess I have swallowed my words eh Sims... Smile Hopefully, my stretch of 3 days without net will end today... too little too late for this game though...

Oh well... It doesn't matter much anyway....
