DC112 spring 1907 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Spring 1907 arrives, with Italy facing assaults on three sides, while peace has broken out around Scandinavia. The brave Italian forces manage to hold on to Venice and Trieste, but are driven out of Serbia. And how long will the northern guns remain silent?

There is one retreat due. The Italian A Serbia may retreat to Greece, Albania, or OTB. Brian, since I'm a little late posting the adjudication, I'll set your summer 1907 retreat deadline for this Friday 11/30 at 3pm Central (US). I'll adjudicate as soon as I receive the retreat and get us back on track.

Sorry the reminder is a bit late, it's been a crazy day playing catch-up at work. Spring 1907 orders are due in about 21 hours. I have a set of orders from everyone, but you still have time to submit revisions.

DC112 spring 1907 deadline extension - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
We have had a player request for an extension of the spring 1907 deadline. With the US Thanksgiving holiday rapidly approaching, I'll skip ahead and reset the deadline a full week from now, Tuesday 11/27 at 3pm Central (US). Enjoy your ham and stuffing -- Andrew has already claimed the turkey for himself.

Also, our game is the next one to switch over to the forum system. For those who have not already checked this out, go to the club website (www.diplomaticcorp.com) and click on 'Message Board' at the top of the screen, where you will find the forum. I believe Mike Sims has posted some notes as to the steps required to sign up for it. If you have any trouble though, please just let me know. This will be the last of my game e-mails sent to the Yahoo group site.

DC112 fall 1906 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Cory,

Thanks again for doing a great job as GM. I have a EOG prepared and will send at the conclusion.

As a current comment on the game:

Italy: ouch! Your stab on me was excellent, but wow did fortunes turn. Everybody is after a piece of the pie. Ces la vie.
Russia - you have created a straight line wall of white death running north to south....nice.
France - has done just the same - between you and Russia, the game board looks like the trash compactor from Star Wars with Italy and Germany getting squashed like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.

See you guys again at the end.

DC112 fall 1907 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Fall 1907 arrives, with Russia slipping unopposed into Greece and pushing a bit more forcefully into both Berlin and Vienna. Meanwhile, Italy counter-attacks the German alpine excursion, even as France moves ever closer to the boot.

Two retreats are due:
Germany's A Berlin may retreat to Kiel or OTB.
Italy's F Tyrrhenian Sea may retreat to Rome, Naples, or OTB.

Winter 1907 adjustments:
France -- no change
Germany -- no change if retreating to Kiel, or build 1 if retreat is OTB.
Italy -- remove 2, or only 1 if retreat is OTB.
Russia -- build 4

Both the retreats and adjustments will be due Tuesday 12/11 at 3pm Central (US). If the retreat orders arrive more quickly, I will announce the retreat results before then and update the map.

DC112 fall 1908 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
After a little break for New Year's, we return to find an NMR from France, so Italy's defensive moves prove unnecessary. Germany attempts to counter-attack at Berlin, but Russia cuts the support and instead boots the Kaiser out of Munich.

With Russia also taking control of Liverpool, Denmark, and Trieste, this game has reached its end. Tsar Andrew takes a 20 center solo. Congratulations, Andrew!
The final game map and RP files are attached. The RP file is pre-retreat. For the .gif image, I took the liberty of ordering the German retreat to Ruhr. I'll post the adjud once I can regain access to the club website.

I encourage all players, including the eliminated Archduke Jason, to submit an end-of-game (EOG) statement. Andrew, I think the club reqiures an EOG from soloists.

Thanks for playing, everyone. This has been my first effort as a GM, and while not everything went smoothly (especially with two CDs!), I definitely appreciate your patience and for sticking it out to the end.

DC112 EOG Austria - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
DC112 EOG Austria

Truly, Diplomacy is a beautiful game. I was a near-starter in DipCorp back in the day, but had to drop out for about 5 years. This is my first game back – and brilliant me, decided to be Austria. Figured either victory or defeat – quick either way. Turns out to be defeat.....
Anyway, what a great game none-the-less. Couple of NMRs by some, a few permanent CDs, but such is life, such is Diplomacy. Our GM Cory did a great job explaining that if you get two, you are out and no replacement (this is important later). He followed thru as promised so delays were minimal. I would like to suggest that is a good way to go for all GMs and players with advanced agreement.
My game and Austrian Strategy: I started with the goal of picking a target – either Russia, Italy or Turkey. Since Turkey was a bit hard to communicate with – and I got a lot of great email from Italy and Russia – it was time for a Turkey sandwich. I had planned on main attack with Russia as a partner, and secretly to have Italy come in through the Sea in southern Turkey so that we could both pound Russia back as he was likely to get large. Mid-way, I changed plans because Russia was quite a good ally, I thought he might be facing big distractions with England up north and would not be so hard for me to hit. Plus, with Italy as an ally, he was an easier stab later (this is also important later). Italy totally drew me in as his super-ace, #1 ally and BFF (best friend forever).....again, this is important later.
So, Russia and I merrily convinced Turkey he was dead – he NMRed x 2, and was easy pickings (told you this would come back) – Russia and I were going to split it. We were hotter than a California wildfire. Meanwhile, Italy half-ass attacked France and Germany (with me helping) with all . Then, with exquisite timing, Italy pounced on me like Elvis on a jelly doughnut. I mean he conducted a flawless stab like Brutus on Caesar, like OJ Simpson on..... well, you get the idea.
So, I went down like Paris Hilton..... (really, I should stop I know).... and it was all over. I was crushed between Italy and Russia like so much caviar and pizza. For what it is worth, I did attempt to keep in contact with France and Germany and England, but, as I was pinned, there was not much to say or do. I regret the early attack in Germany (sorry Dorian) as it was a waste for me, but I was not ready to attack Russia or Italy as I was still eating Turkey on rye.
Anyway, fun game – thanks to Cory first and foremost – great GM. Also, thanks to Italy and Russia for being such good “allies,” then G-F-E and Turkey (who just got whacked – as did I).
Excellent job, Russia. I am glad to decided to muscle it through for a solo.

Archduke Jason

DC112 continued e-mail problem - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I have found out that there is in fact an e-mail glitch with at least one player, so I am going to hold off adjudicating spring 1908 for a day or so while we work around the problem. This is not likely to cause much of a delay in the game, since we are likely to have some holiday timing issues anyway -- there won't be a game deadline on either Christmas or New Year's Day. On that theme, please let me know now if you are going to be away at any time over the next two weeks, so I can adjust deadlines accordingly. Thanks again, and my apologies for the hangup.

DC112 autumn and winter 1907 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Lots of action to report for the end of 1907, as both Italy and Germany fall back and Russia engages in a massive mobilization program.

For the autumn retreat phase, the German army in Berlin had only one valid retreat, to Kiel. Italy's Tyrrhenian fleet retreats to Naples. In the winter, Russia raises two armies and two fleets, while Italy gives up its easternmost lands. Can the remaining powers prevent the Tsar from taking a solo?

The deadline for spring 1908 orders will be next Tuesday 12/18 at 3pm Central (US). I'll post the adjud to the DC website tomorrow, I'm having a problem with the web site tonight.

DC112 spring 1906 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
First things first, the DIAS proposal fails!

An interesting turn, as nearly every ordered move succeeds. Russia supports Italy into Serbia and follows up by moving into Budapest himself. Italy makes a supported move to Western Med, only to find that the French fleet was already on the move to North Africa. Germany pushes eastward, and Russia's northern forces move into the fray.

One retreat is due, the lone Austrian army, which can only retreat to Albania. Jason, I have taken the liberty of ordering that retreat.

For the fall, we have another endgame proposal, a 4-way draw among everyone except Austria. Please cast your vote on this proposal along with your fall 1906 orders, which will be due Thursday 11/8 at 3pm Central (US). Daylight time ends this weekend in the US, so for some of you, this upcoming deadline is an hour earlier.
