DC201 (Viking) - Winter 959 adjustments & Vote - bielf11   (Dec 18, 2008, 8:21 pm)
The Winter 959 adjustments:

SlavicNations: Build A Vitebsk
Sverige: Build A Przemysl

Then the vote for a DIAS: after having received all votes, it appears the proposal was VOTED DOWN.
So, sadly Wink, we have to continue a while longer.

Everyone was okay with the dates so deadline for Spring 960 orders is Monday Dec 29, at 23:00 GMT.
And a note to everyone: since we started I have had to remind several players that their orders were overdue. I like to get the adjudications out as per the deadline. I don't mind adjudicating a few hours later to avoid an impact on gameplay, but at the same time I'd like to ask everyone to watch those deadlines more carefully.

Fall 959: you may not (want to) believe this but a DIAS (Draw Including All Survivors) has been proposed.
Please submit your votes before the Winter 959 deadline.
Now let's head back to what happened this Fall.

The Slavs had no access to their command and thus resorted to self-support instead.
The Swedes now are openly supporting the Romans. Will be interesting to see how that will impact the relationships between the Powers.

DC201 (Viking) - Spring 959 adjudication - bielf11   (Dec 08, 2008, 9:20 pm)
Spring 959: red is this season's color.
The Romans have introduced a new recipe for Beef a la Burgundy: pound the meat until it's soft, then cook softly in red wine. The Burgundians, widely known for their great taste, have come up with Gaspazo di Romani: crush and cut all ingredients into a juicy mix, cook slightly, serve cold.
The Slavs, not stubborn at all, try the same approach once more (when will the Romans ever change theirs?). The Norse and Swedes however have a smooth campaign.

DC201 (Viking) - Fall 958 Adjudication - bielf11   (Dec 02, 2008, 6:24 pm)
Fall 958: Burgundy saw many of its orders fail and its army in Roma set fire just before it was dislodged by the Romans (who else?).
In retribution, it is said, the Romans set fire to city of Pisa. The Burgundese blame the Romans for starting this with the burning of St Gallen in Spring. One would think that the Burgundese and the Romans would get along quite well with their fondness for burning cities. Who's turn is it next?
The Swedes managed to enter Ruthenia now that the Romans went south into Transylvania to replace the departing Roman army that moved into Valakia. The Norse have moved further into the Mediterranean. And the Slavs again saw all their attacks halted by the Romans.
All in all, very little movement this season but enough to require Autumn 958 retreats.

DC201 (Viking) - Spring 958 Adjudication - bielf11   (Nov 26, 2008, 5:59 pm)
Spring 958: St. Gallen, once the pride of the French winter legion, now set on fire by the Romans.
The Romans who saw no way out of the beleaguering by the Burgundian forces than self-destruction.
In the Mediterranean, the Romans and Burgundians have a stand-off around Cagliari and Roma. The Burgundian army in Pisa however had to be disbanded. The Burgundians in return have taken Barca and are just one move away from Alexandria. The Romans seem to be anticipating such a move considering their Smyrna fleet has moved to the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and the army from Antakya to Palestine. Further north the armies of Romans and the Slavs are firmly set and fence off any attempt from the other to even move an inch.
The Swedes try to break the Roman defense line in Praha once more and just like before have to return empty-handed.
Then the Norse: they seem to have a preference for scorched areas. Now everyone knows that these fires usually leave very fertile soil, but perhaps not everyone is aware that SCs don't just grow when watered.
Some say the battle has now become a war between the Romans and all other Powers. If so will we see a major breakthrough in Fall 958? Just hang on...

Burgundy:
F Tyrrhenian Sea - Ligurian Sea
F Western Mediterranean Sea - Palma And with this we say goodbye to Andy, ruler of the Arab Caliphates. Thanks for playing, Andy.
More bad news - for the Burgundians: they lost 2 SCs this year and now need to disband 2 units.
The Slavs are not faring any better with the loss of one unit, although it could have been much worse with the overwhelming neighboring Roman forces.
Good news for the Swedes and Norse, but the Romans stay in the lead with another 2 units.

DC201 (Viking) - Fall 957 Adjudication - bielf11   (Nov 18, 2008, 7:22 pm)
Fall 957: with only 2 units left and threatened by the advancing armies of Burgundy and Norge, the Arabs see only one way out.
If not theirs, then no one shall have the cities of Cordoba and Burgos. And thus two more cities are engulfed in flames. The Norse must be furious to see this potential stronghold on the Iberian Peninsula go to waste. The Arabs are forced to retreat but also realize that these moves will be their last.
The Roman forces consider themselves lucky that the Arabs didn't have any unit in Antakya or else that city might have gone up in flames as well. They are also successful in the naval battles against the Burgundians in the Western Mediterranean Sea and Tyrrhenian Sea, forcing their enemies to retreat.
The Slavs are holding their positions in the East while their nothern forces join them.
The Swedes edge a bit closer to the Burgundians but fail in their attempt to take Ruthenia and the Khazar Empire from the Romans.

DC201 (Viking) - Spring 957 Adjudication - bielf11   (Nov 12, 2008, 12:43 pm)
Spring 957: only Norge and the Slavs see all of their orders succeed.
The Arabs bounce in Avignon with the Burgundese and are forced out of the barren lands of Toulouse upon their return.
Fleets and army of Burgundy and ERE are bouncing on the Tyrrhenian beaches of Napoli. The Burgundese were a bit surprised to see both the Roman fleet from Cagliari and the fleet from Napoli heading towards the Tyrrhenian Sea; just imagine what would have happened had one supported the other...
Heavy fighting between ERE and the Swedes over Prague resulting in a standoff. As a result the advance of the Swedish army in middle Europe comes to a grinding halt.
But it is not all war between these countries: a nice example is the joint operation of the Norge and Burgundese in Hamburg that was pulled off by the Swedes in Mecklenburg. Because the Slavs moved to Hedeby, they escaped unscathed.
This brings us to Summer 957; one retreat only (see below).

DC201 (Viking) - Fall 956 Adjudication - bielf11   (Oct 27, 2008, 9:33 pm)
Fall 956: what a strange season this was.
The Slav army in Hamburg apparently has gone suicidal and gave support to the Swedish army in Mecklenburg to attack... itself !
The Roman army in Ancona ordered an attack on Roma only to realize that it would take another season to get there.
The Swedish fleet in the Baltic Sea ended up with a similar problem while following orders to enter Uppsala.
And the Burgundian fleet in Cordoba arrived in Catalonia to help their army unit to defend the city but found that these had left for Avignon (where they found the Arabs trying to get a foothold as well).

The Burgundians set fire to Tunis anticipating an attack from the Romans; and they were right. The Roman fleet in Barca dislodged the Burgundian Fleet who now are forced to retreat.

DC201 (Viking) - Spring 956 Adjudication - bielf11   (Oct 20, 2008, 8:36 pm)
Spring 956: this Spring it seems that the war is fought predominantly in the areas of Praha, Brandenburg and Bavaria. There are some skirmishes around Paris and Avignon as well as in the waters of the Mediterranean off the Tunesian coast. And the Arabs and the Burgundians fought eachother in the south of the Iberian Peninsula and ended up switching for Cordoba and Sevilla. But overall it has been a peaceful season with powers carefully moving their units around.
No doubt that they are all preparing for heavy fighting in Fall to go into Winter with some victories.

One retreat for Summer 956:
The Arab army in Cordoba was left with no choice but to retreat.
They can go to either Lisboa or Segovia.
Deadline for this retreat is tomorrow Tuesday Oct 21, at 23:00 GMT.
