GM: Anticipated retreats have been done for years in order to speed up games in postal diplomacy; I will agree they are not needed as much in email play. The trick is to figure out which units could be dislodged and then make a list of places for it to retreat to. Start with spot you
would like most and go down from there. Figuring out what retreats might occur I found improved my game play.
